A female basketball star has emerged after an acrimonious divorce from her ex-wife and found love with a new boyfriend.

Women's NBA player Glory Johnson, 25, split from spouse and fellow player, Brittney Griner, 25, on June 5 last year after a 28-day marriage.

The announcement came as a shock to fans as the day before, Johnson revealed the couple were expecting twins following IVF treatment using her egg and a donor's sperm.

Amid a very public divorce battle, Johnson gave birth to twin girls, Ava Simone and Solei Diem, on October 12.

The babies were 15 weeks premature and each weighed only 1lb 70z when they were born. After a number of health complications, including undergoing heart surgery, they were able to leave hospital on February 1.

Now, Daily Mail Online can reveal that after a tumultuous year, Johnson has found happiness with 30-year-old Christopher Fry, who lives in Seymour, Tennessee - a short distance from her family home in Knoxville.

He lives with his parents at their home in a secluded suburb but is currently with Johnson in Dallas where she plays for the Dallas Wings.

Dr Bill Fry and Cathy Fry, confirmed that their son was Johnson's boyfriend, when asked by Daily Mail Online.

'He's with her in Texas,' Dr Fry said.

Mrs Fry said she knew Johnson and described her as a friend. She confirmed her son was dating the basketball star but added: 'I don't have anything to say about it.'

On May 6, Johnson posted a sweet video to her Instagram from behind the wheel of her car. It showed Fry asleep in the passenger seat and was captioned: 'I don't think this is how Road Trips are supposed to go… 16hrs Later.'

The couple appear to have been involved for several months. On February 1, she had shared a picture of Fry holding her daughter, Ava Simone, with the caption: 'Can you spot the #ManBun? #AvaSimone Loves it!!!'

Later that month, she thanked him for an 'edible arrangement' gift, posting a picture of a chocolate heart with the message, 'I love you'.

On Valentine's Day, Glory shared a picture of the pair at a romantic restaurant, with Fry smiling alongside a bunch of red roses and a red envelope addressed to 'G'. She wrote: 'SCREAMING Happy Valentine's Day'

She then posted a picture of the pair cozied up together with love heart emojis and #ValentinesDay.

Last year, Fry was convicted of reckless driving after admitting to cops that he had been drag racing along a highway.

According to local news, two people were hospitalized with injuries and one car involved was left in a horrifying wreck.

Fry and Johnson are believed to have crossed paths while at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Fry attended from 2010-2013 while Johnson started a bachelor's degree in global studies in 2008. She went on to receive a master's degree in communications in 2012.

Johnson told Cosmopolitan magazine in November she is straight and previously had a boyfriend in Tennessee. She simply fell in love with Griner.


'Not a lot of people understand it. They wanted me to be a lesbian who converted from being straight,' she said. 'It just doesn't work for me like that.'

Johnson is currently in Dallas with Fry, her mother Mercy and her sisters, Judy and Grace, to help with the twins as she prepares to return to the court after a seven-game suspension for a domestic violence incident with her ex-wife.

The tumultuous relationship began when Griner and Johnson met at a basketball camp in 2013, shortly after Glory, who is 6'3', had been drafted by team Tulsa Shock.

Griner made the first move during a night out and to her own surprise, Johnson found herself attracted to the 6'8' star.

After a few drinks, the pair returned to Griner's hotel room.

Glory told Cosmopolitan: 'We finally laid down and were about to go to sleep. Of course, there was a little bit more that happened. As I was getting more and more comfortable, more and more was happening.'

They didn't meet again until their teams played each other in Oklahoma and they quickly became a couple in the summer of 2014.

That August, Griner surprised Johnson with an engagement ring.

She said yes – but later admitted that despite her happiness, she had a feeling of trepidation.

The couple bought a house in a quiet suburb of Goodyear, Arizona, close to Griner's team Phoenix Mercury.

They decided to start a family and Johnson began IVF treatment.

But in April 2015, the relationship took a violent turn when both women were arrested after a fight at their home.

According to a police report, Griner told officers the couple had been arguing constantly and got in each other's faces after Griner said Johnson 'disrespected' her.

Johnson told police that Griner had gotten too close, so she pushed her back to get some space and began talking to her sister, Judy, who was at the home.

She claimed Griner pushed her in the back of the head and the couple fought on the floor for several minutes.

Griner was left with a laceration on her right wrist and a tooth mark on the middle finger of her right hand after it ended up in Johnson's mouth, according to the police report.

Johnson had a cut on her lip and Julio Trejo, Griner's friend, had a cut on his neck after trying to break up the fight. All three declined medical attention.

Griner also said she broken a glass dog bowl after throwing it against a wall during the argument.

She told police the fight was caused by weeks of stress, including buying a house, getting married and their relationship.

Johnson later told Cosmopolitan that her sister Judy dialed 911 because Griner had a gun in the home. johnson said she was unaware of the weapon but that her sister Judy knew about it.

The information was not given to the police when the incident happened on April 22 last year.

Both women were taken to jail but refused to press domestic violence charges and were released.

Griner was also suspended for seven games and agreed to undergo 20 weeks of domestic violence counseling as part of a subsequent plea agreement.

Following the fight, they issued a joint apology and Johnson added on Instagram: 'WE'RE OK! @brittneygriner and I are home, injury-free, and still wedding planning!


'We know we must set better examples, even during the most trying times, and we are EXTREMELY sorry for all the negative attention we brought to ourselves, our family, and the league.

'We are actively seeking help in order to do BETTER. Thanks for all the Love, Support, and Prayers that were sent our way. '

Three weeks later, the women were married on a Phoenix mountaintop, surrounded by 75 family and friends.

Griner wore a beige suit and white Converse, while Johnson sparkled in a strapless white gown and veil that she had chosen on TLC reality show, Say Yes To The Dress.

Later that month, Johnson discovered she was pregnant via IVF and made a public announcement, with Griner's agreement.

She wrote on Instagram: 'As of today I'm 9 weeks pregnant with TWINS!!!! It's not a surprise for me because this is what we planned for with the IVF Cycle.

'For 15 years, Double-Doubles came with hard-work and dedication...now I've been blessed by God to have 'double doubles' for the rest of my life!'

A day later Griner filed for an annulment - less than a month after they had married.

She said in a statement: 'Last Wednesday, Glory and I agreed to either legally separate, get divorced, or annul our marriage.

'I can confirm that today I filed for an annulment. In the week prior to the wedding, I attempted to postpone the wedding several times until I completed counseling, but I still went through with it. I now realize that was a mistake.'

Johnson said she was 'blindsided' by the split and her wife's claims that she had not wanted fertility treatment.

The next month, she asked for $20,000 per month in spousal support from Griner.

Griner admitted she had been part of plans to have children but in revised court documents she accused Johnson of texting an ex-boyfriend and sleeping with a man, who may or may not have been her ex, after the couple became engaged.

Johnson denied these claims with an Instagram post: 'It's not right to proclaim to The World that someone cheated on you, without having Legitimate Proof. I'm #not that type of Person, never have been, never will be. #TrustIssues #SoThankful #Blessed #HonestyIsThePolicy'

In August, a judge ruled against Johnson's request for spousal support and also Griner's attempt to get an annulment.

The former couple's legal battle was finally settled in April.

According to court documents seen by Daily Mail Online, the former couple agreed to split childcare costs on April 14.

The costs were weighted to their salaries, with 90 per cent falling to Griner who makes around $1.16 million from her basketball career. Johnson's earnings were approximately $125,000, according to the court.

A judge ruled that Griner would pay child support of $2,835 per month, in part because the twins required round-the-clock care following their premature birth.

Johnson told the court that her mother, Mercy Bassey Johnson, and her two sisters, Judy and Grace, are assisting with child care.

Glory’s agent, DJ Fisher, told Daily Mail Online that - despite confirmation from his family and the social media posts - there was no romantic relationship between his client and Chris Fry and the pair were just friends.

Daily Mail Online has reached out to Griner for comment.
