This is an odd thing about Japan.

For a country so prideful about cleanliness, they seemingly have no issue with packing themselves like this into trains at rush hour.

You’d think these germophobes would want as much personal space as possible.

Nah it's always been a crowded society

The islands themselves aren't so small, but the interior is mountainous and inhospitable so the population is all on the coasts and space is at a premium

Their culture is based around order and cleanliness..........When the assumption that the next person is well kept and hygienic there's no issues being crammed together......... with exceptions of perverts and the like........ also being mostly homogenous promotes this even more......... only in America have I encountered people determined to be nasty........ claim medical conditions to be nasty............ claiming God given rights to be filthy animals........... smelling like hotdog water and shyt........

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.
There literally have been times I've seen the train like this in NY, especially in the morning commute
The only train that comes close to this is the 4/5/6 on Lexington.

Apparently those 3 times have More commuters than the entire Chicago EL system combined.

But most New Yorkers despite being impatient are going to wait for a next train if they literally cannot get inside of the train.

Well at least on the Q train
