George W. Bush was a power hungry sociopath when he was president. Was caused him to be that way? Was he always power hungry throughout his life?

Before he became President or even got into politics he seemed like a guy who just wanted to fukk around and get drunk and fukk women all day. He couldn't hold a job down. So what changed him from going to that to becoming an ambitious power hungry fukker??

No. He was just the first Trump. His family tried to pretend they were true Texans, true down to earth southerners but they were really wealthy blue bloods from Massachusetts. Look up Prescott Bush. George Bush grew up wealthy with a prominent politician and businessman for a father. Similar to Trump. But he was a habitual fukkup. A drunk. A womanizer. Aimless. He had a lot of things given to him, similar to Trump. He went from doing relatively nothing to owning the Texas Rangers. Jeb Bush was the preferred son in their family eventhough he was younger. He was groomed to do everything from the beginning. That probably made George insecure knowing his parents preferred the younger brother and thought he was a fukkup. So they were shocked when he ran for office. Thought it would mess up Jeb’s chances if George ran and was terrible (he did prove to be terrible later on). So his entire psyche was that of a white boy driven to prove to his dad that he wasn’t a dumb fukk up and that he was better than his brother. He probably went into Iraq partly to achieve what his dad couldn’t in dethroning Saddam. He was a precursor to Trump in a lot of ways. He had no business being in office. He surrounded himself with corrupt cronies. Whereas Trump had Mitch McConnell and William Barr controlling things behind closed doors, Bush had Dikk Cheney secretly pulling strings. The same way Trump was completely unprepared to deal with Covid and the Recession that followed, Bush had no clue what he was doing with 9/11, Katrina, or the 2008 Recession. The only difference between them is while Bush was stupid, he still had semblance of common sense (as in he wouldn’t tell people wearing masks was left wing propaganda) and he wasn’t as vulgar and crude. The cism of the Bush generation wore a mask of civility. Trump was raw and uncut.

I haven't been a follower of GWB tbh, but I think that in general, power has the ability to show us the true character of a man. That's the driving them behind Golem in LoTR as well as Walt White transitioning to Heisenberg in Breaking Bad.

The question is whether absolute power corrupts absolutely, or whether absolute power just removes the veneer of civility that unconsciously keeps some of our more primitive urges in check

Do you really think he was all that power hungry? I think he was pretty typical for someone in his position. Damn near everyone in power gets drunk by it.

The sociopathic nature of his presidency, at least to my view, was a combination of a bunch of war-hungry neocon advisers getting themselves into the foreign policy positions and incompetent fools ending up in several other key positions. That and just rich people not giving a fukk about anyone else.

George W. Bush was just a puppet you better off making a thread about who was his Geppetto...I personally feel dikk Cheney was the shot caller of that Administration

I don't think he was power hungry. He was a life-long fukkup, party boy, under achiever. All he had was charm and a great acting skills at pretending to be an "aw shucks" Texans when he was from Connecticut. But, Jeb was the one who was supposed to be president because he *wasn't* a fukkup. The other one was a criminal, so Jeb was the only hope.

I think W ran as a "fukk you" to his daddy. He went out and got Karl Rove who Bush I fired becuase he was a sleaze ball "do anything say anything to win" time campaigner. I think it was Rove who staged the fake break-in and planted a listening device to make his opponent look bad.

Even after Bush won, he basically planned on letting Cheney run things while he was just the figure head. Cheney talked about their "arrangement" and implied that was what was up. W was too lazy to be power hungry.

He wanted to prove to his family he wasn't a fukk up, while wanting power. You don't get into politics at that level unless you are a sociopath, imo.

Some of you need to stop believing in that "dikk Cheney = Darth Vader" myth that has been propagated for the past 20 years. Dubya was unquestionably the top dog in his administration - no one was "secretly pulling the strings" behind closed doors. Go watch the PBS documentary that came out last year about Bush 43's life and presidency.

However, yes, George W. Bush was the fukk up in his family for the longest and he wanted to prove his entire family wrong and so he ran for Texas Governor and then eventually President to step out of his father and Jeb's shadow.

I always thought that he wasn’t a wartime president but wanted to be a domestic president. Like he came in after Clinton who left America in a sweet place. His main goals was education reform, and empowering evangelicals on local and state right issues.

When 9/11 happened he gave up his authority to the adults on the room (Cheney and Rumfeld) and they basically did what they do best.... make money and fukk people over.

Him saying Kanye saying “he doesn’t like Black people” was the most hurtful thing to happen to him really encapsulated how out of touch he was to the monstrous shyt being done in his name. He is a monster and deserves hate because he failed larger than any president outside of Trump, but the motherfukker is a idiot too.

Ironically enough Trump is worst in both death count due to his incompetence and the fact he knew exactly what was being done in his name as a control freak and actually created the conditions of most of his failures.

I met him and Donald Rumsfeld in 2006 by chance (I was working at a restaurant where they happened to be dining at). Cheney is the epitome of terrible human and a charisma vacuum. He made Rumsfeld come off as likable and a great guy. I 100% believe that he's as miserable as the myth makes him out to be.

Well yeah, of course, dikk Cheney is an evil scumbag. No doubt about it.

That's not what I was saying. The myth for the last 20 years has been that Bush 43 was a "puppet" for Cheney. That simply isn't true.
