Golovkin Says Time is Not Right For Andre Ward Clash
Posted by: Gregory Stangrit on 12/25/2014

WBA/IBO/WBC-interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28KOs) says a fight with Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs), the WBA champion and king at super middleweight, would be a much bigger fight in the future.

Golovkin is first looking to unify the middleweight division. He faces Martin Murray on February 21st. The next step is a mandatory shot at the full WBC crown, which is currently held by Miguel Cotto. The WBO title is held by Andy Lee and the IBF belt rests with Jermain Taylor.

Ward has been inactive since November 2013 and is still heavily involved in a legal dispute with his promoter, Goossen Promotions.

"Ward is great champion. I think that in the future this fight will be much bigger and that would be better for everyone. Of course, right now, I'm ready and he's ready but at this moment the fight doesn't mean that much [in terms of money and pay-per-view]," Golovkin said.

be the scariest man in boxing and duck a ninja who hasn't boxed in 1yrs brehs

I had to edit it so I can post the :obama: smiley lol

GGG just said said this also:

When asked by Round by Round Boxing if he’d be willing to move up to the 168 pound division, Golovkin said “Yes, for pay-per-view fight. Chavez Jr, he’s a pay-per-view fighter. Andre Ward, he’s not a pay-per-view fighter. Maybe in the future, yeah,” Golovkin said.

Dude why is SOG trying to go after Lil GGG.

I think SOG is a tremendously skilled boxer, he could easily go up to LHW and take the WBC title from Adonis. Then SOG and Kovalev could do a PPV, that would be the big fight to make in 2016 after everything else is sorted out in 2015.

Damn, Ward has really never headlined a PPV................... Somebody at showtime missed a prime opportunity to have the Super 6 final on PPV. And Dawson red hot off of beating Hopkins against Ward, not on PPV? Why HBO?

I don't really understand nor know the business side of the risk/reward between fighting on PPV vs. fighting on HBO/Showtime, I'd appreciate it if someone broke this down for me.

However, this dude Golovkin has NEVER been on PPV, so he can kill that reasoning. Plain and simple, he knows he'd have a much tougher fight with Ward and would rather take a presumably easier fight with Chavez at a higher weight than what he (GGG) already fights comfortably at.

With that said.............. Chavez might actually generate more money right now, but we don't know that for sure, both Ward and Chavez have been inactive. What's NOT up for debate is that Ward is the bigger prize, legacy wise, and would be no doubt favored to win.
