David Simon and Ed Burns did this after the Wire. I haven't heard it get a ton of praise, but I think it is very good. The first time I watched it was pretty tough to follow. Impenetrable language and it's difficult to distinguish between the various soldiers. I'm on my second viewing now and am really appreciating it. A lot easier to follow once you have a handle on who everyone is.

The closest the show has to leads are eric from true blood and ziggy from the wire. They both knock it out of the park. Ziggy has a great line in on episode where he quotes the " great warrior poet Ice Cube" and talks about how he didn't have to use his AK.

Yeah. I saw on second watch, years after, how great the casting was.
And it became one if not m'y favorite war fiction. The realism is so good, i didn't need thé action. I love how they talk about war in general and this special one.

I really like this show. I like how it had no soundtrack other than the soldiers singing out loud. Not a musical though just comradary moments.
