"Gagnam Style" Rapper Once Rhymed About Raping & Torturing American Soldiers | Hip-Hop Wired

Well this is awkward.
Psy, the Korean rapper who became an Internet sensation thanks to his "Gangnam Style" track, which stands as the most viewed video on YouTube, wasn't always into dance music. Before he was a household name, Psy rhymed about raping and torturing American soldiers, and their families.
From Vulture:
During a 2004 protest against the U.S. presence in Iraq following the beheading of a Korean missionary, Psy, during a song called "Dear American" by the band N.E.X.T., rapped the following lines:
Kill those f-cking Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives
Kill those f-cking Yankees who ordered them to torture
Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers
Kill them all slowly and painfully
Despite his political thoughts, America has more than embraced the South Korean star. He's made over a million dollars off the track, a number that will rise if you include royalty checks.
Psy is scheduled to join President Obama at the National Building Museum's Christmas event this weekend, but he might want to keep those disparaging lyrics on the low.

Hopefully President Obama cancels his trip to the White House.

The only reason his little country is free and prosperous is because of American blood already shed and the threat of our force.

Basically this Psy a$$hole is pulling a Meta Reign/ Larry Silverstein moment.

There's a lot of anti-American sentiment in South Korea. There was a poll some time ago that found 75% of South Koreans in their 20s had anti-American sentiments. I think a lot of the younger generation feels like the American presence over there constitutes more of an occupation than assistance. There's also the issue of American impunity, which I think is a valid concern- when those American soliders killed those two girls, no one could be held accountable because all American activity in the country falls under "military operations" and so cannot be challenged in court. Basically the locals feel powerless when it comes to dealing with abuses.

The criticism is valid, but that "occupation" has kept them safe. The fact is, South Korea is what they are today because of the United States, even from an economic standpoint as well.
