I’ve always liked it when games make video game mechanics a part of the game world. For example, Destiny made dying and respawning an actual part of the universe with the Ghosts reviving their guardians. They literally train in the crucible by killing each other and respawning over and over again
IMO it makes the game more immersive. When you play other multiplayer shooters, there’s a disconnect from the immersion of the game because people don’t just magically respawn after getting sniped, so the whole setup of a multiplayer match isn’t realistic in a game like CoD or even Halo, but in Destiny that’s an actual thing so the competitive multiplayer “makes sense” in the actual game world.
Another example would be like how some games make you access DLC through some kind of portal into another realm or other things like that. Basically an in-game reasoning to explain why there’s suddenly some whole other area that plays differently or is in another timeline separate from the “base” game world
What are some of yall favorite examples of implementing real-life game mechanics into the actual world and lore of the game itself?
