How did you guys do it? Did you start off gradually or did you go straight to lifting heavy like you used to?

Yeah.
It won't take long to get it back as long as you didn't lose a significant amount of muscle.
Give it a couple weeks and you should be close to being back where you were. But take it slow aint trying to end up stranded in snap city.

This is the sensible answer. :ehh:

I did the opposite. :francis:

I was never locked down but I was thrown off my normal gym routine and forced to work out elsewhere (friend's home gym, gym across town).

The modified hours and reduced hours/access forced me to switch up my training programs.

But I lifted as heavy as possible from the get-go once I was back in a commercial gym (so after a 3-4 week gap in late March into April).

Was hitting baby PRs almost immediately and had matched or passed a PR on every lift except back squat by the end of last year, and that included an almost entire month off due to work. :manny:

Gradually, I enjoyed it. I got my form working better again and just worked my way back up. In the UK we are back in a lockdown though and I have been out of the gym since December 19th and no sign of gym opening back up again before March. So I will be back to gradually increasing weight etc when I go back
