We Threw Lance and Vonleh in the bushes after one season and got Batum, Lamb (who looks like he could give a damn about being here or even in the league :mjlol: ) and Hawes in return and drafted the great white hype Frank "The Tank" Kaminsky. Don't really know if that's a Win or a L :patrice: but time will soon tell.

All bullshyt aside, this is the most talented roster we've ever had. And going off the last two years, this is the first time Cliff and Cho have ever been on the same page like this.

Soon as Nicolas Batum learned he’d been traded to Charlotte, he called fellow Frenchman Boris Diaw for the low-down.

Diaw told Batum where to go and where to eat . So Friday at Batum’s introductory news conference, someone asked Batum if he’d start riding around on a Segway as Diaw did.

“Yes!” Batum joked. “I think I’m going to do the very same thing.”

OK, now we know new Hornet Batum is playful. Coach Steve Clifford thinks can be a lot more than that, a lot more than he was as a Portland Trail Blazer.

Clifford told Batum this trade will expand his role. He’s no longer playing with stars LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard, standing in the corner waiting to take a 3-pointer.

Batum, by his own description, is coming off a bad season. He had a wrist injury and shot 40 percent from the field and 32 percent from 3-point range, the worst such statistics of his seven-season NBA career.

Batum says he was ready for a change. He seems delighted to get a fresh start with the Hornets.

“I know my role is going to be different and I like that,” Batum said. “I know I can do a lot of things on the court; I’m a very versatile player. So me and Kemba (Walker) can do great things together.”

Clifford has major plans. He envisions the 6-foot-8 Batum, who will start at shooting guard, as a primary scoring option next season. Clifford imagines running offense through Batum similarly to how the Orlando Magic did with small forward Hedo Turkoglu when Clifford was an assistant there.

The Hornets gave up a lot for Batum, sending shooting guard Gerald Henderson and power forward Noah Vonleh to Portland Wednesday night. But with the NBA’s worst 3-point percentage last season (31.8 percent) and the failed Lance Stephenson experiment over, the Hornets had to do something dramatic to fix this.

“I was very excited when I heard Charlotte was interested in me. I felt like I could take this in another direction,” Batum said. “This is going to be a good, good team. Jeremy (Lamb) is a good player. We’ve got Kemba and Big Al (Jefferson) already. And Frank (Kaminsky) was the best player in all of college.”

Batum believes the Hornets will be back in the playoffs next spring and his play will be a big factor in whether that happens. That’s not just about his career 36 percent 3-point shooting. He says he’s good for five assists and six rebounds per game here and he prides himself in being able to guard every position but center.

“Back in the day (against the Dallas Mavericks) I guarded Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd in the same game. Jason Terry, too,” Batum said.

Batum’s development in basketball was quite different than it would have been had he grown up in the United States. At 15 he was essentially an apprentice pro, practicing against adults every day. He signed with a French team at 17 and was drafted into the NBA at 19.

Batum was recruited by Georgia Tech and Arizona, but decided he was better off in Europe playing against the pros.

“When I was 19 I wasn’t afraid of older guys because I’d gone through it. That’s why at 19 I started 77 games” as a Portland rookie, Batum described.

“When you’re a young guy in college there’s an adjustment (to the NBA) because you’ve never played with grown men. I’d made that adjustment two or three years earlier. So that first training camp, when (veterans) would hit me, I knew what to do.”

Now, changing teams for the first time in the NBA, Batum again knows what to do.

“I’m easy. I’m coachable,” Batum said. “I’m able to adjust.”

yeah I'm honestly not as pessimistic as the original post sounds, but I had to spruce it up for The Coli :youngsabo:

anyway you're slowly swaying me to the side of optimism, I was reviewing the roster while making this thread my expression went from:scusthov: to :leon: in a matter of seconds once I realized how we were looking at each position, and If Frank is even serviceable:ld: we might make some noise.

we just gotta get the breh @Tobias on board:sadcam:

I think its hilarious how excited and optimistic we were last year when we signed Lance/drafted Vonleh plus the whole excitement surrounding the brand change then we turned out to be trash.. now this year we're depressed:mjlol: maybe thats a sign that we gonna have another playoff season

Our team is very balanced and talented on paper but we're still missing that rim protector, gee I wonder where we can find one:beli: I'm hopeful that Kemba can not shoot sub-40% next season and help Lamb play to his potential like in UConn, MKG takes his game to another level and solidifies his spot as our best player, Clifford stops being a stubborn fukkboy and doesnt revolve the offense around Albus.. and most importantly everybody stays healthy(except for Al, he can go:mjpls:)

Low-key this roster ain't too bad but there should be more work coming this off-season.

I didn't even know Born Ready got traded :russ: It was really a failure on Charlotte's behalf. Get hyped as hell then get traded for Spencer Hawes, brehs... It was all good just a year ago :mjpls:

Trading Vonleh was a "meh" typa move really :ld: I get that he had a mediocre rookie season and they drafted Kaminsky (who may be a safer bet but not nearly as much upside) but IDK why they traded him for Batum. I like Nico, he's good but they already have MKG :ld: Plan on trading him? Play MKG at the 2 (can he?) ? That 2 position looking weak as well. Lamb has been a disappointment so far and the other guys are rotational players.

What's the deal with Al? He was all star level the season before this one, but was very mediocre in this one. I don't watch that much Hornets games but was it the injury vs the Heat (playoffs 2014) or lack of motivation..etc. With the centers they got, they should look to move him to the 4 spot where he'd prolly play better. AFAIK they still got Biyombo, no? Marv Williams still around?

This looks like a squad you start off with in 2K then work your way up.

When Batum is engaged he's a great player. Thing is.. sometimes he's too passive and when he's trying to make plays he makes BONE HEAD plays instead. I think we waited to see if he would finally click.. but it didn't. I think he's a great player tho and honestly is already one of the top 3 players on this team. I'ma miss him in Portland tho :to: #GOBLAZERS

After a surprising playoff season I guess he felt he didnt have anything to prove so he lacked motivation, which resulted in a lack of taking care of his body in the offseason, which resulted in a lack of conditioning, which resulted in him gaining weight and getting several injuries. He got injured and the team played way better without him but he still for some reason had this "its all on me" attitude where he felt he had to carry the team in order for them to make the playoffs so he played through injuries that only limited himself and the team

His black hole Alfense of passing him the ball while everyone stands and watches him hold it for 20 seconds in the shot clock before a post move and a brick, or him passing it out to our non-existent shooters who only had 1 second to make a decision. That tied in with his non-existent defense. We have the option to bring back Biyombo which we need to do but its looking like Rich Cho isnt impressed and will let him walk.

So we replaced our interior defense for all the "spacing" in the world so when Al gets double teamed with 23 seconds left on the clock he can throw it out to the several capable shooters we acquired in the past 2 weeks.

i actually am optimistic about this team and in a vacuum, like the frank pick. but it's indefensible to pass on winslow and boston's mega deal for him though.

hate giving up on vonleh so early and think that could come back to bite us

hawes is awful and its retarded that we added salary for future years instead of just riding with lance for another year

people forget that kemba was an all star before he got hurt. if frank can give us pick n pop action, kemba is going to look great again

LOVE taking a flier on lamb

batum has got to start at the 2 to make that trade acceptable. mkg is the heart and soul of this team and he has to be on the court as much as possible for us to succeed. would like to see some small ball lineups with him and the 4

what can i say about al that hasn't already been said about afghanistan: he's bombed our and depleted. biz would be great with a stretch 4 like frank. hope we bring biz back and maybe flip al's expiring at the deadline to a contender that wants a post scorer off the bench

cliff is one of the worst coaches in the nba and i have no faith in him.

lol at the thread title

also next summer should be super interesting

i believe frank, pj and kemba are going to be the only ones under contract. we're going to have a stupid amount of money to spend even after we resign mkg
Gotta be wise with that money tho cuz a certain ambassadors son will be a free agent a year later:mjpls:
