Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, who promotes UK superstar Carl Froch, says the negotiations are ongoing for a rematch with WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward.
The World Boxing Association ordered the two of them to face each other, but now the entire situation is unclear. Froch was the WBA's 'regular' champion when the title was ordered and Ward is the WBA's 'super' champion in the division.
But now it seems Felix Sturm is fighting for the WBA's "vacant" regular title on May 9th against Fedor Chudinov. And Ward is scheduled to return to the on June 20th in Oakland. Froch does not appears to be too keen on a rematch with Ward - unless it lands in Nottingham.
"We're at the deadline and we're waiting now for purse bids for Froch against Ward. Like I've said before, I love that fight and I want to do it in Nottingham. Ward has said that he'll travel to the UK but not Nottingham. There are still negotiations ongoing but Carl has a few things that he still wants to do in his career like fight in Vegas and to fight in City Ground," Hearn told Daily Mail.
"I think he feels that if he gets Ward at City Ground he's got a better chance than at the O2 or Wembley. Quite right he wants every advantage. He's already been to America to fight [Ward] and he's very good. So we'll see on that one. Talks are ongoing with Roc Nation."
