Russian promoter Vladimir Hrunov announced at today’s press conference in Germany that the May 9 clash between former middleweight champion Felix Sturm (39-4-3, 18 KOs) and WBA interim super middleweight titleholder Fedor Chudinov (12-0, 10 KOs) will be for the WBA’s ‘regular’ super middleweight world title. “Just a few hours before the press conference we received confirmation from the World Boxing Association that Fedor Chudinov’s fight with Felix Sturm will be for the full WBA title as Andre Ward and Carl Froch couldn’t agree on a fight in due time,” said Hrunov. Sturm also confirmed that the bout at the Festhalle in Frankfurt will be for the full WBA belt.
Felix Sturm: “Fedor Chudinov is a very worthy opponent. We’ve watched videos of his fights and I can say with confidence that he comes from a very good school of boxing. In spite of all his power and speed, I’m sure that I can defeat him. We chose sparring partners with a style similar to the style of Fedor and I can honestly say I have no doubt of victory.”
Fedor Chudinov: “Felix Sturm is considered as one of the best boxers in Germany, he has a good record, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t win…at the moment I’m in my best shape. I want to show all that I am capable of. And if need be, even more.”
