Cotto's Trainer: Golovkin Can't Do Ten Cents on PPV
Posted by: Rick Reeno on 8/30/2014

By Rick Reeno

Freddie Roach, who trains WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (38-4, 32KOs), sees absolutely no upside in fighting WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs) - at least for the moment.

After Cotto defends his title for the first time, on a tentative date of December 13th at New York's Madison Square Garden, Roach wants him to face Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (44-1-1, 32KOs).

Cotto-Canelo is arguably the biggest fight in boxing outside of a mega-match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

Roach tells BoxingScene.com that he doesn't have any fear of Cotto stepping in the ring with Golovkin, but at the same time he says the dangerous champion from Kazakhstan is not lucrative enough to fight on a pay-per-view platform.

"I want the Canelo Alvarez fight to happen. If that happens, we'll talk about Golovkin after that. We have no fear of him. He's hittable, he can punch a little bit. He's hittable and he doesn't have a great defense. He's a nice guy, a good fighter, real friendly guy and real polite. I met him a few times, he's a really nice gentleman. But boxing wise he's hittable and anyone who's like that I feel Miguel can hurt," Roach told BoxingScene.com.

"The thing is, they haven't marketed that kid well. Nobody knows who he is. On pay-per-view he can't do ten cents. Why fight a guy like that for no money? Unless he's bringing money to the table we're not going to fight him."

Man GGG would fukk Cotto up with that punching power. Pacquiao had him a bloody mess in their fight. I only seen a handful of GGG's fights but I haven't seen him in danger of getting knocked out. Cotto ain't been the same since Margarito fukked him up with them loaded gloves

Like I said before, GGG gives Cotto flashbacks of Margarito and punishes him enroute to another brutal stoppage victory over Cotto.

Speaking strictly business I understand why Roach is talking sit about GGG when there is a huge money fight against Canelo looming. I would call all other fighters not named Saul old dog shyt too till I got that contract signed.

True in that Cotto skill wise would be the best skilled fighter GGG had faced. But I haven't been pushing Cotto to fight GGG at all because he is a 154 lb fighter. Don't blame him if he didn't go after GGG...but stay at 160 long enough defending that belt, eventually you have to give GGG his chance.
GGG is too big and strong. Cotto is good, but I don't think he can hurt GGG and GGG would sledgehammer Cotto out before 12.
