They're still on top by far...but all their old viewers will continue to die off.

Fox News ratings hit 12-year low - POLITICO.com

Fox News had its worst ratings since 2001 in January, according to the latest figures.

The network had a 12-year low in the coveted 25-54 demographic in primetime and fell to its lowest total day ratings since 2008, a press release from rival cable channel MSNBC stated on Tuesday.

And January marked the worst month ever for Fox’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” among the 25-54 demo, as well as the channel’s lowest total viewership in the 10 p.m. hour since July 2008.

At note at MSNBC, the cable network saw its ratings go up 11 percent in the 25-54 demo compared to January 2012. And “The Rachel Maddow Show” topped CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” this month, and also ranked number one among the 18-34 demo.

Fox News, meanwhile, had nine of the 10 top programs in January — Maddow’s show was the only non-Fox News program to enter the top 10, in the last slot, as the Huffington Post pointed out.

This is just a hangover from the election. I don't watch Sportscenter when my team loses, so I doubt that conservatives are that engaged after taking one of the most humiliating electoral L's since "The Little Man on the Wedding Cake" caught the beats from Truman.

Why are you using such a dismissive tone as if to suggest that their viewership will rebound? I think a major component to their ratings free fall is the nature of their election coverage. Fox all but guaranteed not only a Romney victory, but a landslide by some pundits, assuring their viewers that all polls showing an Obama victory were "liberally skewed" or whatever. Even for the diehards, thats a major blow to credibility. You'd have to imagine that many of their viewers feel a certain way about that, and like VVD alluded to their demographics are converging in a way that predicts a hemorrhaging of viewers from old age.

If these viewers were so reasonable, they would have never been in the bubble to begin with. What other station are they going to turn to for the
"Two Minutes of Hate"? Unless The Blaze TV gets on more cable systems, Fox basically has the conservative audience on lock. They will tune back in as soon as Obama looks like he is about to take a L.

they still got 3-5x more viewers than any other cable news network

Cable News Ratings for Monday, January 28, 2013 - Ratings | TVbytheNumbers

That's the funniest thing, Even with their ratings down Fox still kills CNN and MSNBC.
All of them are pretty damn useless in the grand scheme of things. Fox pushes the Republican agenda, MSNBC is basically the promo channel for Obama and CNN is just dull as fukk.
I will be interested to see what happens when Jeff Zucker's changes at CNN start to appear and the vibe of the channel becomes something new and different. Will it increase ratings or will it make tings even worse?
