Four US States Plan $8 Billion Hydrogen Fuel Hub

Hydrogen can be derived from water using an electric current and when burned emits only water vapor as a byproduct. The fuel could theoretically reduce greenhouse emissions and air pollution, depending on how it's obtained. As with electric vehicles, however, hydrogen's potential has been limited by infrastructure. Lack of fueling stations limits the market for hydrogen-fueled vehicles. Few hydrogen-fueled vehicles limits investment in producing and moving hydrogen....

Critics point out that as it's now produced, hydrogen isn't green, carbon-free or unlimited. Currently nearly all hydrogen commercially produced in the U.S. comes not from water but natural gas, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. While advocates say using fossil fuels to produce hydrogen now can help to develop a clean industry later, environmentalists are skeptical. "It's essentially a push for expanded oil and gas development. More oil and gas development is completely at odds with the need to confront the climate crisis and drastically reduce our dependence on fossil fuels," Jeremy Nichols with the Santa Fe, New Mexico-based environmental group WildEarth Guardians said by email.

Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming rank seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, for U.S. onshore gas production. Utah also is significant gas-producing state, according to the Energy Information Administration.

Issues with hydrogen cars to my understanding is that there's only a few cars being sold and they are all in California. Can't fill up at home and don't offer that much more range than electric and has no fill-up station unless you in Cali.

Didn't they say it's expensive to make hydrogen & the only company that's exploring hydrogen cars is Toyota .

Hope fully they don’t use water as a source to create hydrogen bc most of those states have a water shortage :russ:

BMW is partnering with Toyota on it as well.

GM is exploring their own research. They rolled out a hydrogen powered generator concept a few month ago.

The more they research this shyt the better. Better to work to make it feasible than not make an attempt at all IMO.
Good looks

Hopefully they can develop the technology and increase the number of cars/stations.

At this point I'm in favor of almost anything that'll get us away from gas. :yeshrug:

Honda and GM are mildly involved with Toyota on this. However, yes, HFC is mostly a Toyota venture.

Some advancement lately, Toyota has come up with a canister system that's affordable and friendly to transportation. Supposedly, this was shown off recently in Japan.

I'm eager for this to take off as an apartment dweller.

Toyota recently raced a hydrogen-powered GR Corolla at Fuji Speedway.

Also, they're considering using liquid hydrogen for internal combustion, but from what I read this still emits NOx from the combustion process. The more well-known electrolysis method in the Mirai produces none of this.
