Four people have been arrested for selling illegal Amazon Fire TV Sticks at a local flea market in Polk County.
According to detectives, the suspects were selling “jail-broken” versions of the TV Sticks that allow users to steal internet connection.
Polk County Sheriff, Grady Judd, says the suspects were caught after selling the devices to undercover deputies for about a hundred dollars each.
“On each of the times that we made a purchase of this illegal product from the sellers, they all admitted, this is how you avoid paying communication services fees. Well, they weren’t that technical, they said ‘this is how you get free TV,'” Sheriff Judd said.
Sheriff Judd says if you have jail-broken fire sticks, you’re committing a misdemeanor when you use the streaming services without paying for them.
He advises those who purchased the device to throw it away.
