found out my mom is a 'prepper'

we dont always get along and sometimes we fight and go months without talking. i went over to see her for the first time in a year and a half and she has rooms packed full of food and supplies like theres a damn war going on. shes watching some youtube cac called 'canadian prepper' or something. it seems like a way to get dumb people to vote right-wing, honestly.

but it scares me because thats my family. im tempted to just stop talking to her again, but i'd rather she learned something than do that. i dont even know where to begin with reversing this much brainwashing. should i just write her off?

Preppers are a bit different than other types of Right-Wing subsets. Their mindset is focused on the collapse of the system itself, and that it's going to happen. This really isn't about electing Trump/DeSantis and everything will be right with the world. Basically they are getting ready for the end times. So in a sense to reverse the brain washing, you can't reach them by going like...

Person 1: Russia is going to start a Nuclear War soon.
Person 2: That's just crazy talk.

Basically a person is going to fight back with you because your going against their beliefs.

You need to challenge them subtly.

Person 1: Russia is going to start a Nuclear War soon.
Person 2: Oh, when is it going happen? What are the targets?
Person 1: Well it's going to be soon.
Person 2: Show me the video... Wait a minute, why is this video 4 Months old?

Basically its a thinking problem like Alcohol/Drugs. I took a look at this Canadian Prepper, and their whole cache of video is full of gaslighting.

If you able get them to think about it... then ask questions like "What is making you scared of this happening?"

Obviously as well they need professional help, but they also need to be able to seek it themselves and normally its when they begin to question why they are stocking pilling food.

Convince her it doesn’t make sense to have more shyt than you can carry with you. If she wants to have enough supplies to wait out the nuclear winter she’s going to have to buy some rural land. If she somehow manages this then building a “bunker” that will probably flood with the first spring shower could be a bonding experience for you two. Sorry to hear that though. Hoarding is terrible.
