FOXBORO — The Patriots [team stats] offensive line, which has struggled to maintain its depth during training camp, took another hit.

Veteran guard Robert Gallery retired yesterday due to wear and tear, according to a source. His body hadn’t been responding the way he hoped. The 31-year-old spent a good chunk of camp with the Patriots’ starters, though he was with the second team during Friday’s practice.

What a horrible pick he was by the Raiders. He only lasted 8 seasons and couldn't even play left tackle. Where do you consider him among biggest bust?

fukk the Raiders....

...but pretty much everyone considered Gallery a can't miss, once-a-decade talent on the O-line. Can't blame them for this one

A reach? :skip:

Like everyone else this thread has said, dude was a beast at Iowa, and everyone said he'd be great in the league.

My theory is that you shouldn't pick linemen that early, but I thought he was a late 1st-2nd round talent, only because O-Linemen have a very difficult transition from the college to pros. It's only been real recent that we've seen O-Linemen come in and beast. It's just unfortunate how bad he got nicked over the years.

I think it's acceptable to pick a linemen that high if they're that good. Good left tackles don't end up in the market

True, but I thought he should have been a left guard from jump street, I thought while he was a mauler and had good footwork, I think he got drafted at the point where he could no longer pass for a tackle in the modern NFL, it's just the Raiders were somewhat desperate because if you remember that year their O-Line was ancient. But it's neither here or there, I liked him as a player and I wish him success in life after football, he's still young and can achieve so much.

Tony Boseli, Ogden, Pace, Jones, u want me to continue

A left tackle that can handle an elite pass rusher is invaluable. One on one. They play for mad years and are vital to an offense in both the running and passing game. I would build my teams through line play if I was a GM.
