I've heard some people say it's 90% diet only 10% working out and the calories in calories out is a myth others say both are equally as important.

What does the gym think about where each falls on importance?

Totally depending on the goals. For weight lost loss it's 90%.

Body composition changes (muscle building/leaning out) I would say 75-80% but that's different because the food should be fuel to increase workout capacity.

Yea like what's been stated, it depends on persons goals but for most people it's diet > exercise

Only people who can really get away with having a terrible diet as far as eating whatever, are younger fast metabolism having brehs, especially athletes.

The older you get the more it shifts towards diet. When I was younger I used to be able to eat whatever all day everyday and gain while still being lean as hell.

I am able to lose fat because of diet. There was a period of one month last year where life got hectic and couldn't work out. I was extra vigilant about diet and leaned out while not losing much strength after resuming work out.
