Leonard Fournette trolls Florida on Instagram
The dog days of summer can bring angst to college football fans clawing for any sort of excitement to jumpstart their sporting minds.
Baseball just won't cut it.
So that's why a little trash talk between competitors can be just what people are looking for to whet their appetites during the latter part of the offseason.
On Monday, LSU Mack Truck running back Leonard Fournette kicked off the week with a little trolling of SEC Eastern Division rival Florida on Instagram:
OK, so there's sooooo much going on here. First of all, Fournette is standing tall over Vernon Hargreaves III during the Tigers' thrilling 30-27 win over the Gators in the Swamp last year. It was a game in which Fournette absolutely punished Florida's defense. And it really stood as Fournette's SEC coming-out party, as he ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. It was also the game that completely changed the dynamic of Florida's season thanks in large part to a sloppy dropped touchdown pass by Tevin Westbrook late in the fourth quarter. If Florida wins that game who knows how the Gators finish the season and if Will Muschamp is still the head coach.
But what's also happening is the continued rivalry between Florida and LSU about who owns the honor of Defensive Back University (DBU).
Florida started things off with a nice little video earlier this year, declaring itself as DBU.
And LSU countered with a few tweets from players not impressed with Florida's new brand
He later backtracked, attempting to distance himself from the discussion:
Riiiiiight.
Something tells me all these guys will be barking about DBU before, during and after this year's game in Baton Rouge on Oct. 17. Something also tells me that Instagram photo will be splashed around the Gators' locker room in no time
