We didn't need a whole study to tell us this, but people really seem to like living in Florida. As someone born and raised here (and who moved and came back twice), I can comfortably say it's a pretty great place to call home. (Especially Miami, though I am admittedly a little biased there). However, a new analysis by WalletHub actually confirms it: Florida is the second-best state to live in the nation.

The personal finance company compiles a list of the best states to live in each year, taking into consideration factors such as job opportunities, educational quality, safety and even the cost of groceries. For its 2024 study, WalletHub used 51 different comparison points to rank all 50 states, and Massachusetts was the only one to out-awesome Florida. Here's what they had to say about the Sunshine State:

  • It boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, at just 2.9%, plus the sixth-most job opportunities per capita.
  • It has the seventh-lowest tax rates and the sixth-highest median household income growth, making it a great place to build and grow wealth.
  • It offers an abundance of leisure activities per capita, especially restaurants, beaches, fitness centers and theaters.
  • It is a pretty safe state. It has the ninth-most law enforcement employees per capita, the 13th-lowest violent crime rate and the 15th-lowest property crime rate.
Across the metrics categories, Massachusetts and Florida are pretty evenly squared, except when it comes to one: Education & Health. Mass ranks No. 1 in the country in education and health metrics, while Florida sits way down at No. 24. No one's perfect, but this is one area where we'd definitely love to see some improvement, Florida.

Sitting just below the Sunshine State is New Jersey at No. 3, which is significantly more affordable than Florida and has a higher score in the Education & Health category (though their economy seems to be struggling a bit a No. 25). I love it here (panhandle) but it's not for everybody. I think you have to be at a certain point in your life to be able to appreciate it. Young people looking for a ton of shyt to get into need to keep close to the cities. This here for grown folk :flabbynsick:

I wonder how do people do these types of rankings?

Florida is a big ass state so of course people gon flock to it, and to be fair it’s surrounded by water and it’s hot all year round and florida in theory has cool ass jobs depending on what you do but that’s not everybody

If thats the case, might as well put new jersey as number 1. At least its not that spread out to drive around. Florida and Mass have some areas that are in the middle of nowhere. The cities may be cool but youre fukked in between those city areas because they are dead zones. The phone service is dead in some of those places so you can go missing and never be found. You will legit be on some man vs wild in those places. At least new jersey has towns and towns that go into each other and roadways. Plus two major cities on opposite ends so youre better off.

they build wealth in blue states, bring that wealth to red states so it can be hoarded via no income/low taxes.

whats the social mobility like in florida?

whats the income inequality like in florida?

Lived in Broward for 2 years, can confirm the politics alone (if you're actually paying attention) made me ready to go back home. You'd be surprised how much politics can affect your day to day life, and coming from a blue state the sht was night and day to me.

Also, the fact that you're literally only 5-10 feet above sea level with hurricanes tryna murder you a few times every year, nah bruh. The natives are corny as fukk there too, can't dress, no style of their own except for the foreigners, and they all dikk ride the hell out of you if you from Chicago or NY. It got to the point where I would just say I'm from the Midwest to avoid lame ass questions like

You from 63rd?? :troll:

Did you know anybody that died from rap beef :lupe:

You must have been a real nikka to make it out :whoo:

Corny people exist everywhere no doubt, but it's like damn man more often than not these are the kinda people I met down there. Ill probably do a timeshare for the worst winter months in Chicago but other than that I definitely wouldn't want to live there all year round.
