Historic City News has learned from a report released yesterday by RealtyTrac, that Florida has more vacant homes in foreclosure than any other state in the nation; easily beating out other large states with troubled housing markets.
There are 55,503 housing units in foreclosure in Florida that are vacant. That’s 33 percent of the 167,680 vacated foreclosures in the country. Florida’s vacated foreclosures are more than the next five highest states combined — Illinois, California, Ohio, New York and New Jersey.

The average foreclosure takes 893 days in Florida. There are 22-percent of mortgages in Florida that are either delinquent or behind on payments as of April, in addition to the 10.5 percent in foreclosure, according to the report.

The vacated properties are a drag on property values because many are left neglected.

When they eventually do sell, foreclosed homes typically are sold for much lower than market value; so, steadily dumping new foreclosed properties on the market will only further depress home values.

While existing “single family home” sales jumped 18.7 percent last month in the year-over-year comparison, and the median sales price rose 15.9 percent to $171,000, which is encouraging; the potential for more distressed properties to enter into foreclosure, the lag time for those homes to re-enter the market, and the price they will eventually fetch, has led state economists to temper their projections for the “housing recovery” just yet.

Cali, Arizona, and Florida had some really overpriced homes. But the job market is pretty bad in Florida and the pay is terrible. I haven't had a raise in three years, I'm a Pharmacist so I can't complain, but we used to get a raise of 5 to 7k a year.

As of a few months ago, they were on track for another overpriced housing bubble. I'm in California so I don't know if that's countrywide but we're approaching pre-crisis prices.

But in general, what's up with Florida? The amount of fukkery coming from there is nuts. Hardly a week goes by without any and it's not some recent thing. Stuff like this is similar to Florida's role in the Great Depression.

Are the things I hear about pharmacies out there overblown or will people really come from across the country for pain meds?

Folks were coming from as far as Tennessee and Kentucky. We had several doctors who writing more prescriptions for pain meds than all the doctors in the other 49 states combined. The laws down here are comical, so much nonsense flies down here.

Our legislature is filled with old hicks, most of them barely have a college degree. A lot of them politicians stay getting arrested for corruption, FBI just arrested the mayor of Miami a couple of weeks ago.

For instance this hick Peaden introduced the stand your ground law with no real good intentions, he introduced the law cause his fine folks were getting arrested if they shot looters during a hurricane even if the shooter was in no "imminent danger". :wtf:

During hurricane Katrina, folks stayed getting shot at in Mississippi just for walking down the street. In other states this would be highly illegal, but not in the South.

Florida needs the spotlight on them, because these Cubans only vote republican ergo we have idiots running our government.

This is why I say no way Micheal Dunn gets prosecuted, the law makes the threshold for using deadly force way too low compared to other states.

Lol...that gas station is about 10 minutes from my house though. And right around the corner from where I do my grocery shopping.

Dunn ain't getting off. He has no case. No evidence he was threatened. Cold-blooded first degree murder.

At minimum Dunn should get charged with manslaughter, which can be a 10-20 year sentence in FL.

But it's possible justice could be properly served :troll: and he could walk free. Wouldn't be the first time...

Threatened? Nah, homie. They have to prove he did not have reasonable fear of bodily harm or death.

In Florida all you need is reasonable fear, you don't have to be in actual danger. If you know like I know, reasonable fear = black person. Every jury would agree black people causes "reasonable fear." That alone means he won't be convicted.

Beyond reasonable doubt is damn near impossible in this case.

Only way you get convicted of murder in Florida is if you are in the process of committing a crime or if it was premeditated.

Law abiding citizens are damn near immune from prosecution.

The kids did the right thing, they got in the car and was about to drive away. He shot into the Durango when all the doors were closed. :smh: They could have stumped him out, but it was a simple verbal exchange and they bounced.

First degree murder should be easy, this guy crouched and shot through the door, knowing if he shot through glass the bullet trajectory would be off. This is why gang members always shoot through the door.

Peaden actual wrote into the statue that no arrests should be made in most cases, he actually wanted the process of killing someone to be as painless as possible. No reason to think before you shoot. No way this law passes in NY or Boston where the average citizen is much more educated.

Dunn is not getting convicted. His scenario is part of white people's worst nightmare. The law supports stand offs ending in gun play. He exercised his rights, those kids should have ignored him.

In nearly a third of the cases the Times analyzed, defendants initiated the fight, shot an unarmed person or pursued their victim — and still went free.

Similar cases can have opposite outcomes. Depending on who decided their cases, some drug dealers claiming self-defense have gone to prison while others have been set free. The same holds true for killers who left a fight, only to arm themselves and return. Shoot someone from your doorway? Fire on a fleeing burglar? Your case can swing on different interpretations of the law by prosecutors, judge or jury.

Derrick Hansberry thought John Webster was having an affair with his estranged wife, so he confronted Webster on a basketball court in Dade City in 2005. A fight broke out and Hansberry shot his unarmed rival at least five times, putting him in the hospital for three weeks.

Ultimately, a jury acquitted Hansberry, but not before police and prosecutors weighed in. Neither thought Hansberry could reasonably argue self-defense because he took the gun with him and initiated the confrontation.

• During an argument at a 2009 party in Fort Myers, Omar Bonilla fired his gun into the ground and beat Demarro Battle, then went inside and gave the gun to a friend. If Battle feared for his life, he had time to flee. Instead, he got a gun from his car and returned to shoot Bonilla three times, including once in the back. Battle was not charged in the slaying.

•At another party in the same town five months later, Reginald Etienne and Joshua Sands were arguing. Etienne left the party and returned with a knife. During a fistfight between the two men, Etienne fatally stabbed Sands. He was sent to prison for life.

In West Palm Beach, Christopher Cote started pounding on the door of neighbor Jose Tapanes at 4 a.m. after an argument over Cote's dog. Tapanes stepped outside and fired his shotgun twice, killing Cote. A jury acquitted him, but prosecutors and a judge had discounted Tapanes' self-defense claim, saying if he was truly afraid for his life, he should not have stepped outside.

jesus christ, I'm staying the fukk out of Florida...

I don't even want my flights redirected from there anymore...

I'd rather pay the extra money and take a longer flight from LAX to San Juan, then to step foot in that piece of shyt state again...
