He has that extra camp lo champagne and toothpick swag, like when a dude just finds out he got a prestigious fellowship or a dope job and for the next week he got that cheery attitude and that glow about him.

About Django:

I get why Ba says Tarantino substitutes cool and pop culture references for genuine emotion. It's true for generally all Tarantino flicks with the exception of Jackie Brown, and that's why JB is my favorite Tarantino movie.

Four things

1. KBadd, you said Schultz didn't have a reason to help Django. He said that he despised slavery, and compared the story of Django getting his wife to that German fairy tale. Whether that fairy tale true or not, I don't know. But that seemed good enough for me

2. Agreed that the plot got flimsy once they meet Candie, but the mandingo fight and the runaway slave getting torn up by dogs, I didn't mind it. It made me cringe and I had to turn away at some bits, but I got no problem with QT keeping it in. Showed why Leo/Candie was such an evil character.

3. The first scene of Basterds had an entire family getting slaughtered by Nazi soldiers.

4. I got no problems with Tarantino making an anti-slavery movie. Slavery's part of American history, and as long as he isn't distorting the truth and just telling historical fiction, I'm cool with it.

It's narrow-minded to say Django is the "ultimate slavery movie". I liked the movie a lot, but considering there aren't too many flicks concerning slavery, it's a poor label to use. And no slavery drama's coming down the chute anytime soon. No movie exec is gonna greenlight a Nat Turner killing white babies movie.

i agree 1000% with yall feeling that Django was NOT some big accomplishment for black people or that it was an important film at all... i felt that right away, although i felt the movie was entertaining... im curious as to whether or not you read the full article of Tarantino explaining what he said about roots, cause the premise i got was that he felt that the movie was white washed when he said it wasn't realistic... and it was more of a criticism of hollywood and their uneasiness of a "black uprising"
