Keeping it funky. Basa is on some shyt. If a Hov album is wack then its wack. I can't judge his album any different than a wack Nas album. And what makes Nas seem more "advanced" is subject matter. That's really it.

I didn't choose sides. I've always been a fan of both. Just depends on what kinda mood Im in.

Good conversation about c00ning, but NO WAY in hell a movie gets made where two black comedies get to act a fool and black folks don't go out of their way to hate on it.

I also think this is some recent shyt that became a trend after Nas starting saying the term.

The Wayans Bros is a classic funny sitcom that would be seen as some supreme c00nery today.

just not true. dogg. he got a mega-pass for Kingdom Come off TWO SONGS...like, literally, he nearly made an entire album of garbage and nobody be talkin about it. nas can't go 2 for 15 without it being talked about. 2 for 15 TALK...them Jordan This Week in Baseball numbers.

And what makes Nas seem more "advanced" is subject matter. That's really it.

no, my point was by 1999, when they first started becoming "rivals" it was already clear by then that nas was a more talented lyricist for concepts to visuals. while jay gotta say wack shyt like he's analogous to basquiat with his visuals, nas can actually conjure a setting with simple lines (see thief's theme...all of it..."rats drink from water drops" "deaf crack fiends can't speak, scream noises)...not saying jay can't paint pictures...but nas more advanced. simple as that.

i understand that.

I got Basa's point. It wasnt really dissing Hov, it was more about how he is perceived. Because of Do it Again and Big Pimpin, people sice Vol 3 to a level that it was never seeing. Do It Again was a great single, and Big Pimpin was the song of the summer in 2000, but that album was not hot at all.

Nas can give you a great album like I Am, it even had a great single in Hate Me Now, and the album gets hated on as that "its not Illmatic" shyt because its not flawless.

it was seen as supreme c00ning back then too. Martin was as well. I remember getting into arguments in college about Martin. "IT made us look bad," and im like "dont pretend like you wasnt laughing with your fake enlightened self :comeon:"

c00ning is good when its funny. Why? because its funny and funny is good.

not to bring hip-hop discussion into the sports forum...but Volume 3 was much better than it's given credit for right here

Hova Song, So Ghetto, Do It Again, Dope Man, It's Hot, Big Pimpin were all dope

S. Carter, There's Been A Murder, and Come And Get Me are good

the only tracks I don't really like at all is the Mariah feature and Snoopy Track

needless to say I disagree with you

and I Am was fantastic as a bootleg, but he switched it up and basically every track added was worse than the track on the bootleg :ehh:

see, you made my point.

Vol 3 was a very inconsistent album to me. I remember listening to it and thinking he had some real big time highs and then some real lows like Snoopy Track, Pop 4 Roc, and a few others to go along with the highs like So Ghetto and There's Been a Murder.

And I agree about I Am being worse after the vultures (like myself) got the album before its release but you made my point. I Am had as many :ehh: tracks as Vol. 3 did, and as more dope cuts yet Vol 3 is seen as hotter. Why? Do It Again and Big Pimpin

Who gave him a.pass for Kingdom Come? That album got shyt with no regard for human life. shyt was so bad he had to go back to the lab and be "inspired" by American Gangster. Maybe Im just one of those rational Hov fans that smell his bullshyt.

kc, was the first artistic risk he took since sampling annie. and yes i remember the linkin park shyt...calculated, getwitable. not saying ag wasnt a better album, because it was, but as bad as songs like beach chair were, he was at least showing some comfortability in his new board room shoes. he got scared though and had to get "inspired" by drug dealing. as ive said before, after a decade of listening to someone i wanna hear some growth in things other than their shopping and drinking habits. i guess, i now know jay likes high end street art. :ehh:
