First Somali American will be elected to a state legislature this November

Again, Somalis we made it

Minnesota Somali-Americans are doing it big. First they sent Keith Ellison to the US Congress; first Muslim-American ever to be elected to US Congress representing Minneapolis. Then they elected Abdi Omar, first Muslim American and Somali-American elected to Minneapolis city council.

Now Ilhan Omar wins the Democratic primary for the Minnesota State legislature district representing Minneapolis beating the longest serving member of the state house. She is expected to become the first Muslim-American in that state legislature.
