ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -
History was made Friday night in Orange County where for the first time ever in Florida two students with Down syndrome were crowned homecoming king and queen.

Seniors Travjuan "Bubba" Hunter and Semone Adkins received the honor just prior to West Orange High's football game against Cyprus Creek.

The two were among 12 accomplished students vying to become homecoming royalty. They were elected king and queen by the West Orange student body and also participated in a talent contest earlier in the week.

The selection was kept top secret until Hunter and Adkins received their crowns in a coronation ceremony on the football field.

"I am so excited, I am so proud of my son," said Janice Morgan, Bubba's mom.

Morgan said Bubba and Semone have been life-long friends and sharing this honor is something they had never imagined.

"It was a dream come true, because I always knew that she was going to be something great in this world and this is just the beginning for us," said Karen McNeil, Semone's mom.
