By Andrew Goldfarb Final Fantasy VII protagonist Cloud Strife will join the roster of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U as a playable fighter.

Revealed in a trailer during today’s Nintendo Direct, Cloud comes complete with limit breaks, an Odin summon, and even an alternate costume based on his Advent Children look.

As seen in the trailer, a stage based on famous Final Fantasy VII city Midgar is also headed to Smash Bros.

No specific date was revealed for Cloud or the Midgar stage just yet. We also don't know when to expect the inevitable Cloud amiibo figure.

The end of the trailer also showed off new Chocobo costumes for Mii Fighter.

Cloud’s appearance is a bit of a surprise considering Final Fantasy VII never came to any Nintendo systems. That said, Cloud did appear in music spinoff Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and its sequel Curtain Call on Nintendo 3DS, as well Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on Game Boy Advance.

Played them all but (Japanese ) 3.

I'm always debating with myself which is my favorite between (U.S) 3/6 or 7.

I don't want to see Cloud in Smash Brothers.

I suspected that Square and Nintendo have been making deals on the low since the Dragon Quest XI NX slip up.

Plus, Square and Sony never said that FF7R was an exclusive either, rather "play it first on PS4".
