You may be right. Letting the fans bury D Bryan from the beginning would have prevented him from getting so big in the first place.

:jbhmm:

They did try to bury him but it backfired. The love triangle with Punk and Team Hell No was meant to keep Bryan down but the fans revolted when they started the "weak link" storyline.

Nah, the weak link storyline was actually an angle to make Bryan a more credible contender for Cena at Summerslam. That whole thing gave Bryan strong singles wins and pretty much created the whole "flying all over the place" style that put his matches insanely over, AND was a smart way of taking him out of Team Hell No once he showed he wasn't "the weak link".

There should of never been a Hell No...that was a tool to divert Bryan from how hot he was following WM 28 with the crowd going crazy for "YESYESYES"

No question about it, I'm just talking about the weak link angle. To me, that was the only time during his first run were WWE made a legit effort to put him in positions to succeed. He was given time and all the big moments in tag matches - shyt, he was the first dude who got a clean W over the Shield as a unit - and was slowly transitioned as a singles threat by having big clean Ws and showing out in a lot of gauntlet matches.

It didn't last long as after Summerslam they went to the "let's feed him to Randy and give the YES chants to other people" phase :dead: but those couple of months before getting the title shot against Cena he was treated very well by booking.

When they finally pushed Bryan back singles a year later, they did the week link stuff and had him going at Blandy...he made Blandy tap out...beat face Sheamus, who they were pushing hard...almost had MITB won...then they had Cena pick him. There was Gauntlet matches with the Shield and Cesaro too.
