What Happened: A March 2025 Pew survey of over 3,600 U.S. adults revealed that unfavorable opinions of China have gone from 81% to 77% since last year. The proportion of Americans who perceive China as an absolute enemy also dropped, from 42% to 33%.

China, one of the biggest U.S. trading partners, axed 12,000 metric tons of U.S. pork orders, the data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows.

The move represents the biggest cancellation of pork orders since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains and stalled economies around the world, Bloomberg News reported.

China, behind Mexico and Japan, was the U.S.’s third-biggest market for pork in 2024, importing some 475,000 metric tons valued at more than $1.1 billion.

A plant in Kershaw, South Carolina has for 50 years been crushing the tiny yellow pearls called soybeans into powder and oil.

Those products get put on a train or a truck and shipped off to be used in food and to feed farm animals. But now, amid tense trade negotiations between the U.S. and China, one of the nation’s top buyers of soybean products, the Kershaw plant in Lancaster County will close.

The massive food processing company Archer Daniels Midland announced to employees at the Kershaw plant earlier this month that the facility would be permanently closed “later this spring.” The Lancaster News reported last Tuesday that front office employees had been told the facility would close May 30.

From what I understand it takes about a month to ship goods overseas from China to L.A. 3 to Texas and about 5 to N.Y. Even if he rolls back all the tariffs to zero we are still gonna feel the effects as a delayed response. Also add the U.S. business strategy of "just in time shipping" where most of these companies don't keep extra stock on hand in warehouses because of the cost and you have recipe for disaster.
