FDA Approves Mixing COVID Vaccines

The Food and Drug Administration's decisions mark a big step toward expanding the U.S. booster campaign, which began with extra doses of the Pfizer vaccine last month. But before more people roll up their sleeves, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will consult an expert panel later this week before finalizing official recommendations for who should get boosters and when.

The latest moves would expand by tens of millions the number of Americans eligible for boosters and formally allow "mixing and matching" of shots -- making it simpler to get another dose, especially for people who had a side effect from one brand but still want the proven protection of vaccination. Specifically, the FDA authorized a third Moderna shot for seniors and others at high risk from COVID-19 because of their health problems, jobs or living conditions -- six months after their last shot. One big change: Moderna's booster will be half the dose that's used for the first two shots, based on company data showing that was plenty to rev up immunity again. For J&J's single-shot vaccine, the FDA said all U.S. recipients should get a second dose at least two months following their initial vaccination.

:francis:We will see... its looking like Covid isnt going anywhere which could mean boosters become required.

:hhh:No
I got my 2 shots and I’m done

You sure about that?

Israel requires COVID-19 booster shots for stricter "green pass"

First paragraph from the article linked.

JERUSALEM, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Israel on Sunday piled pressure on its vaccinated citizens to get a booster shot by making only those who received their third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine eligible for a "green pass" allowing entry to restaurants, gyms and many other venues.

SF and NYC have vax mandates for entering bars, restaurants etc. SF is an odd case because well over 80% of the adult population is fully vaxxed but they still require proof of vaccination. 70-90% vaxx rates have been the purported thresholds for herd immunity. So in an SF bar you can assume at any point in time 8/10 patrons are fully vaxxed...

It begs the question: "What exactly is trying are these measures trying to solve?" Vax rates or cases? If you're trying to solve for cases, then you're essentially trying to catch the wind IMO as vaxxed people can spread COVID to each other

I've said this time and again but I'm really interested to see what the next "phase" of the pandemic will be when 85-90%+ of the vaccine eligible population is vaxxed. At that point in time one would imagine you're at herd immunity between inoculation and prior infection....

Also why I'm personally against the widespread implementation of the vaxx passport. Once implemented, it's hard to roll back. It's easy to move the goalposts and add on other conditional requirements to get a "pass" to participate in society.

Masking is here to stay. For health and stealth reasons. Social distancing as well

Next 6-12 months gonna be interesting
