The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is considering whether to loosen restrictions for obscenity on broadcast television and radio. This rule change would allow brief “non-sexual-nudity” and isolated expletives in prime time, while children are still awake and watching TV.

The FCC claims that it will consider the public’s sentiment as its members make a decision and has given Americans the month of April to file their comments.

Outgoing FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski previously had to order the Enforcement Bureau only to tackle “egregious cases” because of the “backlog” of reported obscenity cases. In the last six months, the FCC’s caseload has plummeted 70 percent, with more than one million complaints ignored.

Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, hopes the FCC does not loosen its standards any further:

American society is moving further and further away from the Biblical standards of morals and decency set by God, to the point that we have to worry about what our children view in the supermarket checkout, in their school textbooks, and now even in their own homes on television and radio. We’re urging the FCC to uphold high decency standards in entertainment in order to protect America’s children and families.

The FCC encourages citizens to send comments via its Electronic Filing System, referencing Proceeding No. 13-86, or by referencing GN Docket No. 13-86 through mail at Commission’s Secretary, Office of the Secretary, Federal Communications Commission 445 12th Street, SW, Washington, DC 20554.

I have seen on network TV shows like Scandal the past few weeks a woman go down on her husband, a man eat p*ssy, and thrusting motions that couldnt be misinterpreted. I thought they loosend restrictions a long time ago at least for shows that come on after 10.

Gotta love this government. Freedom of speech is all good for degenerate nonsense being pushed on our kids by huge media corporations, but speak against the administration and their international murder spree against brown people, and you run risk of being put on some secret domestic terrorist list.

These obscenity laws are a joke and outdated. If Timmy wants to see some ass and titties, he can just tune into HBO or Showtime or if he is really bout that life, he can just go to one of the thousand or so websites and stream some porn.

The only person who can stop a kid from gaining access to certain things is the parent.

Sounds good, but not practical. You can't monitor your kid 24/7 and good parents put preventive measures in place to prevent their kids from seeing questionable material. However, if my kid is watching a UFC fight on spike and all of a sudden he sees a somewhat lewd commercial followed by raunchy trailer for a show that Spike is launching due to the laxed censorship laws, what is a parent to do?

You can't sacfrifice the future welfare of your country for a dollar. Or can you?

Not watch UFC on Spike.

:yeshrug:

in the hopes that loss of viewership will lead them not air adult material during shows that are being watched by kids. Or don't you believe in the power of the free market to self regulate?

:troll:

But seriously, if I were a parent i would be more concerned with internet than television. That's why i say the rules are kind of outdated. There are so many ways of accessing adult content that these rules really don't do that much good.

Whole heartedly agree here and you are absolutely right. An 8 year old kid can easily be 2 clicks away from having his\her mind jacked up off adult content. This should be addressed ASAP

And no, I don't believe that the free market can regulate itself. As a matter of fact, I'm starting to consider the term free market and regulate being in the same sentence an oxymoron.
