So, on one hand, I love to see these kinds of post modern "Fatal Attraction" domestic thrillers made, with all black/mostly black casts, and great actors, (or at least actors I enjoy) not to mention classic 90's music on the trailer, Joe, "All The Things"
On the other, couldn't we have all those elements, and come up with something that doesn't feel so entirely cliched and by the numbers? This plays like a satire. Lush, but blandly filmed locales, well dressed professionals, a seemingly normal man who becomes unhinged, for no real reason, and the climatic incident in which he is stabbed, shot, falls to his death. Meanwhile, we have the husband who is distant, until the third act, when their love is reconnected through a horrifying event, a wife who struggles to keep a secret, and a character, barely developed, who throws his life away for reasons we cannot discern, but really only exist to serve the screenplay.
Kind of a shame. You can hardly take this seriously. I want a real black domestic thriller with real menace and a story that doesn't play like a Lifetime movie.
