Meloni has been deemed far-right and has been extraordinarily critical of France's colonial continuances. The immediate angle is that Italy and other Europeans do not want an increase or any illegal immigration in their countries. So they (IMO, correctly) point out the France's colonialism as a driving factor of this issue.

So basically, when migrants cross the Mediterranean from North Africa, they with either end up in Southern Spain or Southern Italy.

Racist Far Right Italian Prime Minister doesn't want any migrants in her country and blames France for it colonialism.

Funny how the Italians don't mention the collusion on overthrowing it's former colony and allowing criminal gangs to traffic mostly Black Africans.

Three threads on the coli, first thing in the morning, about one of the worlds leading Far Right politicians. :ehh:

Its definitely election season again.

There's gotta be a #rentsdue version for how the far right actors start bubbling every election cycle and just change their stripes as soon as it's over.

Old videos but that first one about the CFA francs is full of mistakes lol.

Anyway, the CFA Franc should definitely disappear and hopedully one day, the eco being a 100% African currency sees the light of day. But it's up to West African countries to finalize that transition. At first, it was supposed to launch in like 2010. Then after that it was 2020, then, I guess Covid happened and now it's for the end of 2020s...

Weirdly, considering how conservative Macron is on some issues, on this one, he's been totally ok to end the CFAF and that's since his first term.

That's not what I saw. When the Eco came very close to being ratified, Macron was losing his mind. Demanding that African Presidents come to France and explain to him why they are asking for this. If Cote d'Ivoire didn't save him, France would have been fukked.

Eco was never close to be ratified. In order to do so, the countries that would be part of the Eco zone would have needed to meet certain economic criteria which only a minority did. No serious economist thought that the 2020 deadline was realistic.

There were indeed increasing protests against the CFAF in the late 2010s in francophone countries and it was a good moment to start the process but even Nigeria (the largest economy of the area) was not stable enough and had an exploding debt problem to solve first. And that was before covid so it was in no position to switch currency.

Once again, it's up to West African countries to cut the cord and go on with it. If Ivory Coast plays games and is ok with the status quo then the other countries need to find a way to do it without it or to convince it somehow. France doesnt need the CFAF, just the geopolitical gains that comes with it.
