Now this is a great matchup. I actually went back and watched quite a few holmes fights. As much as I love Lennox I think holmes would edge him out. Better jab, speed, and chin. Dude was so fast and light on his feet for a heavyweight.

But this is really a 50-50 fight cause lennox also has a great jab and was the bigger man with more power. I just think it would be a great chess match in the early going with both guys trying to outjab eachother. But as time went on I think holmes superior hand and foot speed would win out. And he would eventually catch Lennox late. I'm a huge Lennox fan but I can't forget that he got slumped two times by subpar fighters. People can say he underestimated them but it doesn't change the fact that his chin was suspect where holmes chin was granite. I'm taking Holmes by late KO or close decision :yeshrug:

Holmes and my argument for Prime Tyson over Prime Lewis is similar.

Lewis's prime was late in his career and didn't have those Emmanuel Steward-honed skills when he was at his athletic peak.

Similar to the Ray Leonard vs De La Hoya thread, I'm considering the best versions of each fighter and not combining their eras. So no mid 20's Lewis with Steward or Lightweight De La Hoya with Mayweather Sr.).

That 2nd Holyfield fight really pushed the best version of Lewis to his limits and Holyfield was too old to capitalize himself. Even Lewis admitted that he was never pushed that far and Holyfield himself was 37 years old.

I think a younger, skilled fighter with good pop and blurry-speed footwork eventually accumulates enough damage and folds Lewis late which I think Holmes can.

This is why there's a high chance Ibeabuchi would have been the premier fighter during that time. Absolutely robbed of that matchup.

Alright I’m taking this in two ways.

15 round fight

I think Larry may get him because his stamina for a heavyweight was incredible and he has an amazing overhand right(Lennox couldn’t see this punch at times). The fight would be amazing and it would be a good chance to see how he dealt with extremely technical style amazing jab and probably looks like the Ray Mercer fight.

12 round fight

I think Lennox can do enough work in the middle rounds and maybe even drop Larry once to secure a win. Nobody knocks prime Holmes out though he took the greatest shot to never knock somebody out.

the best LL vs the best LH.

I will give it to Larry Holmes because he used the ring like a craftsman, Lennox was a methodical fighter and a rangy fire power guy when its necessary. Larry was more an all around athlete in that ring, footwork was mad and his jabs, Oh lord!

i agree with this type of breakdown..boxers dont like fighting other boxers esp one that has a height and weight advantage...i honestly think lennox would give larry fits whether in a 12 round or 15 round fight..lennox had a jab too and a punishing one at that just like larry holmes...lewis vs holmes would look like holmes vs carl the truth williams IMO..id give it to lewis

I'm leaning towards Lennox Lewis in this one. I in no way think Lennox would dominate Holmes, it's probably as close to a 50-50 as you can get. I'm leaning towards Lennox mainly from the fact he is bigger and has a devestating jab too. Lennox was susceptible to overhand rights(both times he was stopped it was from an overhand right he didn't see coming).

Great fight! I think Holmes edges this one based on being the better athlete & his very good chin. Holmes has a top 5-10 jab ever in any weight class & if he could get up from that murderous shot Ernie Shavers landed on him, then I think he could handle LL's power & might even hurt him at some point because of his own good accurate right hand. He also had the quicker hands so I could see him boxing to a UD or SD
