It's the shiny object generation. Instead of focusing on the art and the artist and the point the artist is trying to make through his or her music, people get caught up in the distractions. Hip hop hasn't gotten too far away from the music, the grimy and gritty beats that exude the streets, and is now caught up in the image. As long as there are fans that are paying attention to the actual music, we'll be alright.
