All Disney Films Have Been Disqualified From Award Consideration After Barring Critics

You might have heard of that little film studio, Disney? Well, it turns out they reportedly don't like investigations into their business dealings. Very surprising, and so unlike a mammoth media company.

The L.A. Times published a long article which investigated their practices and how they may try to curry favour with council members in Anaheim, the city where their California theme park is based.

As you can imagine, Disney loved this kind of exposure. So much so that shortly after the publication of the article, the L.A Times announced that Disney had not had their press accreditation approved for their latest film, Thor: Ragnarok. Disney claimed that they had "showed a complete disregard for basic journalistic standards"

The L.A. Times published a statement saying, "The annual Holiday Movie Sneaks section published by the Los Angeles Times typically includes features on movies from all major studios, reflecting the diversity of films Hollywood offers during the holidays, one of the busiest box-office periods of the year. This year, Walt Disney Co. studios declined to offer The Times advance screenings, citing what it called unfair coverage of its business ties with Anaheim. The Times will continue to review and cover Disney movies and programs when they are available to the public."

But of course, this being is the golden age of boycotting, this wasn't the end of the matter

In response to the attempted blacklisting by Disney, other media outlets protested that they wouldn't be covering Disney films until the ban was revoked.

The backlash went one step further today when four groups of prominent film critics announced they would bar Disney films from awards consideration.

Was what Disney did really wrong?

If any studio did that it’d be wrong. The times reported on something completely separate from their film coverage and they decided to take it out on them rather than putting their side of the story out. It’s the same shyt chance did with mtv when someone gave him a meh review. No studio or corporation should be allowed to dictate coverage or how journalists do their jobs.

Does it happen? Of course. Should it happen? fukk no. But they backed down so it’s moot at this point

Also props to Ava for letting her voice be heard even though she’s in business with Disney.
