So I downloaded the myfitnesspal app(no I'm not telling y'all my name:ufdup: )

Anyway, it says that my daily calorie intake should be 1200.

I worked out this morning(calculated to 515cals burned)

Ate breakfast.

Ate lunch.

It says that my net calories are 18.

Did some Googling, and I see people saying that I need to eat my 1200 PLUS my exercise Cal back.:what:

I don't get it? Should I eat to 1200 or under? Should I eat an extra 500 for what I worked off?

Net Calories = calories in - calories out
if net = 0 you are eating at your TDEE and maintaining weight
it is + then you are in a surplus to gain weight
if it is - then you are at a deficit to lose weight

Exercise should be calculated into that TDEE if you multiplied the bmr equation by activity level, so you shouldn't have to "eat back" calories burned.

I use this formula over the one provided in myfitnesspal since for me it is wildly inaccurate.
3/Katch-McArdle:Considered the most accurate formula for those who are relatively lean. Use ONLY if you have a good estimate of your bodyfat %.
BMR = 370 + (21.6 x LBM)Where LBM = [total weight (kg) x (100 - bodyfat %)]/100
then multiply it by either 26 to 30 for the average desk job + gym
or
multiply by 31-37 for job that is a bit more demanding than desk job + more intensity at gym

My fitness app overestimates calories burned from activity to me. I don't eat to replenish the caloric burn. I just eat more protein after the workout but keep it around 100 calories of my targeted intake for the day.

Do I have to have a negative calorie intake to lose this mini gut I got going on and to obtain some abs?

Is it even possible to cut for some abs but overall bulk at the same time? :dwillhuh:

Yes, your net daily should be about -300 to -500. Should be gone in about 2-3 months at that rate.

1. you shouldnt count your exercise calories..ever

2. 1200 is awfully low, what stats did you use to arrive at that number?

3. unless you are an EXTREMELY active person or do "physical" work you should always assume sedentary for activity(1.2x your BMR)

Switch the order up, workout on an empty stomach, ditch breakfast after. Drink a protein shake after your workout and just wait to eat a meal @ lunch when you normally would.

I still eat what I want but the menus is flexible and bends, like today I went to the gym and after had a shake + banana and for lunch I actually had a burger and fries from Pipers Kilt :lawd: So, since I had that for lunch dinner tonight will just be shake + salad and grilled chicken in it.

I use the app as well. Basically the 1200 it calculated is the number of calories you should be eating (if you are sedentary) in order to lose the number of pounds per week that you chose when you first signed up. When you work out, you're increasing the number of calories you need to eat in order to lose that same weekly amount of weight. If you eat less, you'll just end up losing more weight. Me personally, like to have that extra 600 calories, cause 1200 or whatever calories not enough for me, even when I don't workout.
