Experiences with L-Glutamine?

Got some last week for when I started the 100 pushups a day challenge.

Bottle says take 2 before workout and 2 after workout

one day, I took the 2 before, but not the 2 after.... and I could barely function the next morning.... I was dragging all day, had no energy... stuff was ridiculous

soon as I popped 2 pills, my energy levels shot back up to normal

can someone explain the science of this?

helps with recovery but most Protein shakes have more than enough to not need to supplement with it unless you are using something like Clen.
