She was basically saying Maynard was boring even before she married him. It took him standing up to death to light her fire up for him. He was just the safe secure man, she said in so many words she only ever liked him before that moment

One really dope thing about the movie, it’s (From what I know atleast) the only extensive depiction of true Louisiana Creole black folk.

If you’ve ever read War and Peace, it’s like the French sections of that novel…It’s a kind of sweetness mixed into the narrative. Like “Ayo these nikkas speaking creole?????”
