Just finished binging this. Show is set in mid 90s Oregon with a breh as the main character as a freshman. Show gave me Freaks and Geeks vibes and there's a few :wow: moments over the course of the season. It's only 20-25 minutes an episode so it's a breeze to get through.

I'm 7 episodes in and I'm having mixed feelings. Sometimes it's good and other times it seems forced. The black kid is too thirsty and his mother is the same. The writing makes me want to hate them. Also, why is his father a white guy named Leroy? :russ:

Maybe they were going the Louie route with him having a black ex wife and two white daughters.:yeshrug:

I think they established the kids and parents with the exception of Luke's mom. I didn't like how underdeveloped the supporting cast was but the last episode kinda left gave me hope that Tyler and Mcquaid will get fleshed out characters in S2

You thought so? I thought the girl who played Kate was awkward. But obviously the character was supposed to be. But I didn't think she was particularly powerful with that bridge scene. I thought the show was cool and there was some nostalgia. I did like having actual teenagers play teenagers.

Meh I like the concept but I have one huge issue...
mid 90s Oregon n everybody is obviously homophobic buuuuuuuuuut nobody bats an eye at my dude wife’n Up a white bytch:stopitslime:
You know them muthafukkas would have been racist as fukk in that town.
Can’t rock with shows that star black ppl but try to erase the shyt black ppl go thru in order to boost up the white girl lesbianism dilemma.

How this dude clearly black with a white dad :gucci:

The creator(s)' explanation:

Expanding on that, Luke's dad Leroy, by all appearances, is white, and Luke doesn't appear to be biracial. How was that decided and will we learn more about Leroy if we get a second season of Everything Sucks!?

Mohan: Narratively speaking the only thing I can say is wait 'til you see what happens in Season 2. In terms of the Season 1 of it all, the one thing we'll say is we really wanted the show to focus — we wanted to limit the number of characters that we see, so we can be more intimately involved in each and every single one of them. So it was a very deliberate choice to only have three adult leads, being Luke's mom, Kate's dad and Leroy. And if you're only going to have three adult characters, we just didn't want to have the quote-unquote deadbeat dad character be the only black adult male because it's a bit of a trope. So that was reason enough to make Leroy not black.
