Yea, its because when you're on Headphones the Room gets taken out of the listening equation, so theres nothing but your headphones. Makes you hear things differently then you would if you heard it on your speakers in your room and such. Headphones like speakers also have a different frequency specialization so that adds to the confusion. A/B'ing is a must if you are going to use the headphones as monitors, which I do not recommend.

Rule that needs to be in everyone's top 10 for mixing...

Do not mix with headphones on, but do check your mix with headphones.

ok i got a question, what if when making a beat while using speakers and it sounds nice to you but you want to hear it in headphones for a second and it sounds loud and hurt your ears, is that normal? (obviously not on the red zone)

im asking this as i mainly listen to music/make beats with headphones on sometimes

Make some slight adjustments to the eq on the master track...might need to cut, bass mids or treble....

This is why it pays to have great mixing monitors or just a set of monitors period. Because it gives you a really flat sound. Chances are your monitors or headphones are coloring the sound.

When mixing you have to reference the track on as many different kinds of speakers/headphones as possible.
