Usually when an actor calls a movie great, they're talking about one they're in. So, of course, you take it with a grain of salt. But surprisingly, Robert Downey Jr., of all people, said Guardians of the Galaxy is the best Marvel movie. And if he's willing to throw aside his ego that's as strong as Iron Man, we're willing to believe him.

"Galaxy in some ways is the best Marvel movie ever," Downey Jr. told the Toronto Sun. "We’re talking about how the Iron Mans and the Thors and the Captain Americas and the Avengers movies have afforded Marvel the opportunity to essentially take what was a third-tier, minor, kind of upstart bit of potential from one of their comic books series and say: 'Look!' It’s like you have a great quarterback, and his brother plays for another team, and then you say: 'Look, this is their second cousin and we think he has a great arm and he should start.' And then he goes and wins the Super Bowl!"

I agree. It's a fun movie but that's the highest praise I can give it.

yea i thought it was kinda fun.

didn't really have an appreciation for a lot of the humor, but i take it if you DID like the humor then the movie probably worked a lot better for those people because so much of the movie relied on it.

i was confused about some shyt though. i know you're really not supposed to nitpick about movies like this cause they're silly by design but just curious... how were there human beings living on all these other planets and shyt? was that explained? did i miss it? dude was in like an intergalactic prison and you saw regular ass dudes in there lookin like pacman jones and shyt.

They weren't humans, they were alien races who all just happened to look exactly like humans. And the reason for that is simply that creating all kinds of complex looking alien lifeforms (through CGI or practical effects) is more expensive than putting body paint on twenty guys and call it a day. Because that's what they did, and it is one of my biggest issues with the movie still, because they put zero effort in expanding on the diversity of the Marvel cosmos.

yea but like that whole xandar planet was made up of humans. and not only that but they all spoke and acted like humans... and used human expressions, and human jokes. like "a-hole" and "dikk".

john c reilly's character was pretty much john c reilly... but he's also an alien?

i dunno maybe i'm not supposed to be bothered by these things but little things like that took me out of the movie. never really felt like proper context was given for this universe.

i was late to the party. saw it 2 days ago in theaters finally.

i was very underwhelmed. i cannot for the life of me understand why it's getting the praise it's getting.

It's called hype, critic laid the the ground work, sheep eat it up

movie has zero memorable scenes like the rest of the marvel movies

I would put it on the same level as independence day

yea i'm sure it plays a part but it wouldn't be fair to accuse everyone who enjoyed the movie of being a sheep.

my guess is that a lot of people just really bought into the humor and the characters, and if those elements of the movie worked for you then you probably had a great time.

but shyt... the best movie of the summer? an instant classic? the next star wars?

"The Raid 2" was the best movie this summer, and "The Winter Soldier" is the best Marvel movie but Jesus Christ some of you cats CANNOT abide other people liking shyt that you don't. It's weird as fukk to me, especially if you're an adult.

People liked the movie because they liked the movie. That's it.

Fred.
