Eurogamer: Halo battle royale reportedly cancelled after years of work

The mysterious, long-rumoured Halo battle royale project from series co-developer Certain Affinity is no longer in development, a new report has claimed.

Speaking on the XboxEra podcast, reliable insider Shpeshal_Nick said the game, codenamed Project Tatanka, had seemingly been cancelled.

While officially unannounced by Microsoft itself, Certain Affinity had discussed the project publicly in broad terms several times, and said in late 2022 that it had been in the works for more than two years, with nearly 100 people then working on it

Yeah rumor has it they are scrapping that engine and creating new Halo with Unreal 5. We might see it in the future with the new Halo iteration under Unreal Engine

That makes sense.

I remember there was a breh on here that legit argued that they were going to have an add on for base Infinite built in Unreal no later than the end of last year. :dead:

Battle royale is played out anyway, they had a mode like it in Infinite and even though I thought it was fun most people didn't like it

I can see them taking ideas and assets from that and applying it to something else

I feel like they started this after multiplayer for infinite died down a few months after release but now that it’s back in a pretty good state and the engine tools are finally efficient, it’s not really necessary for a whole separate game on unreal

People just gonna build battle royales in forge anyway

I know Nick and lol @ him being the source. Bro throws everything at the wall and sometimes things stick, but not a huge loss anyways. Too late for a brand new official mode imo, the MP is great and forge can allow people to create BRs of necessary

I remember when 0 for 3 studios was like "the only BR we acknowledge is the 'battle rifle'" when they were making Infinite

Probably one of the most disconnected and out of touch shooter studios of all time.
