So somebody who isn't me has a serious ethical dilemma. This person needs to make money and was offered a place at a job that does ethically questionable things. While these things are not technically illegal, they potentially have serious ramifications for others and societies in general.

Should this person put their morals aside to eat, or should this person say no to this job so they are not associated with these ethically questionable practices?

At what point does one put their morals/ethics above money?

you'd def have to go into more detail about the job duties.. but if you're even questioning it I wouldn't do it. At the end of the day all you have is your integrity, if you sell that out.... :yeshrug:

That's exactly what I'm thinking about SWIMs situation. SWIM can't go into much greater detail without outting him/herself. However, SWIM would be analyzing documents and giving these findings to very powerful/important entities that pretty much have free-range to do what they want with the findings

It's up to you in the end, breh. Just ask yourself if you can live with yourself when it's all said and done.

Then again, we all do things that have serious ramifications for our future generations so.. I guess you gotta put it in perspective with your sitchaychin

SWIM will definitely appreciate these comments. He/she is desperate for a job, but doesn't think he/she will be able to look him/herself in the mirror if the job is taken. SWIM is so lost, but knows he/she should probably not take the job. Life is difficult sometimes

How much money is it? Do they really need a job that bad? Are kids involved?

It's a sizable amount of money (40-50k). They really do need a job badly, as they have lots of student loan debt. Foreign teenagers are involved.

To be clear, foreign youth will be interviewed to determine their beliefs about certain things. If certain things are uncovered by these interviews, these youths could be in trouble. However, the interview/analysis method has not been validated, so it is very possible innocents will be singled out inappropriately. Also SWIM cannot ensure the anonymity of the interviewees, which is ethically problematic from a research perspective

After reading the posts and thinking more about it, SWIM is heavily leaning toward not taking the job. SWIM thinks that he/she shouldn't compromise morals to make money. There have to be other jobs out there (despite the terribly poor economy).

There are most probably other jobs out there. If the job is this questionable, and the person still qualified, it means they have some skills that could get them another job. These soul-eating jobs aren't worth it. I knew a girl who was caking something serious on wall street, but the sheer corruption and unethical behavior involved made her quit after less than 6 months.

Interview the kids but skew their responses and white wash there opinions so as to paint a great picture.
