6:09PM EST November 8. 2012 - It's been a rough season to be an Eagles fan. Yet, if you're a Philadelphia sports radio personality, it's been quite a bountiful fall harvest. Thursday afternoon Philly radio host Howard Eskin tweeted a hypothesis about Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden being a possible replacement for head coach Andy Reid.
"Could Jon Gruden be the next Eagles head coach. Sources tell me he wants to coach again. IF the Eagles change the NFL assistants r weak, sooo," he said.
It seems like Eskin might just be throwing mud (or something else) at the wall, especially since he's the same guy who said less than two weeks ago that Reid was planning to bench Michael Vick for rookie Nick Foles.
Another source is claiming that Gruden has reportedly been reaching out to potential assistant coaches in case he plans to return to the sidelines in 2013. It didn't help that a wide-eyed Gruden (knowing him he had likely been up since 3 AM), was surrounded by Eagles fans on a flight out of New Orleans Tuesday morning following that previous night's Eagles-Saints game.
Let's take a step back here people. Yes, it's possible that Jon Gruden wants to get back into coaching again. And it's certainly possible that Andy Reid will be gone in Philadelphia at the end of the season if not sooner. But if Gruden is going to return to Philadelphia, where he served as offensive coordinator under Ray Rhodes in the mid-90s, it's not going to happen anytime before January.
Jon Gruden coaching rumor mill starts up again
First off.... at Eskin. This dude is ALWAYS wrong, like the article says he claimed Vick was gonna get benched two weeks ago based on his "sources". So take that for what it's worth.
Secondly... at the national media picking up on this shyt like it's a legitimate story, knowing that Eskin be suspect at random.
But all that said....Eagles fans, do we NOT want Chuckie? I mean, if he's legitimately interested....?
