Eric Sermon said on Questlove that early Common was a Das EFX fan...huh?

No he wasn’t. It was just wordplay referencing. He was not dissing them, I surely never felt that way. Just like if he would say she sippin on sizzurp or poppin mollies. It’s talking about the FACTUAL phases that HIP HOP is / was going through

Everybody was Das Efx fans when they first dropped. :yeshrug:

Side note: That squeak in his rhymes was deplorable

So he wasn't throwing subs at them. Alot people thought he was dissing Onyx and Das as gimmick rappers

Tbh he was gimmicky himself to a degree, most are until they find their niche. He actually rapped like Das without the “iggidy” so they were likely some of his influences. Common wasn’t really dissing anyone until Cube.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. I love Can I borrow a dollar, but I’m sure glad Common changed it up on Resurrection which is my favorite album from him because I think his career would’ve died if he kept making music like this.

Everybody was biting Das back then though.

It became a thing. It got so bad that Das said they had to switch their whole style for the second album because everybody stole their sh*t. LOL!!
And was still dead nice

Facts, Com was borderline wack when he first came out lowkey:manny: got busy with Resurrection and leveled up to one of the goats though
