this was the pinnacle of Hip-Hop.. from a skills/sales standpoint... NO ARTIST in th history of the GENRE has been able capture the world, dominate the music indusrty and be without a doubt the BEST RAPPER ALIVE( hailed by his peers) and arguably @ this moment in time the GOAT to ever touch a mic..

The sales were HISTORIC in 2002... THE EM SHOW(may2002) sold 1.3mil 1st week
and over 809k 3rd WEEK.. on its way 7MIL sold by the end of 2002...to this day 9/3/2012.. it has sold over 19million copies worlwide.. there have NEVER been as many eyes and ears focused on hi[-hop.. hip-hop had become the most populAR GENRE in the world.

Em even aknowledged that its his "best record so far"..... TES is #317 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of ALL TIME...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

WE thought we had seen the best OF EM... how could he top TES..

8mil the perfect storm... earlier in the year TES droppd was his most critically acclaimed album hes wrote SO FAR>>>.. how could he top his work from earlier in the year? HE DID.. HOW?

dont ask.....

the 1st single from 8mil ST

"LOSE YOURSELF"

the most successful hiphop single OF ALL TIME

peaking at number one on 24 national charts worldwide,

It had a 12-week run at #1 on the BILLBOARD HOT 100

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, "Lose Yourself" became the "Longest Running Single at Number One for a Rap Song" at 23 weeks.

The song went on to receive the Academy Award for Best Original Song[1] (the first time a rap song ever won this award),

The American Film Institute later ranked it #93 on their list of the 100 Greatest Songs from American Films.

"Lose Yourself" became Eminem's second career nomination for Record of the Year (following "Without Me"), and the first rap song ever to be nominated for Song of the Year. It won Best Male Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song,

In 2004, it was one of only three hip-hop songs from the twenty-first century to have been included on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and was also the highest ranking, at number 166.

VH1 placed it at #4 for the best songs of the 2000s.

DETROIT 10yrs ago...Look, if you had, one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted, one moment
Would you capture it?
Or just let it slip,

^^ while the most crtically acclaimed song on the "8Mile" ST there were 2 other songs "8mile" and "rabbit run" which arguably trump it in quality and are EM's 2 GOAT song hes ever recorded...

"8MILE" produced/wrtitten by MM :whew:

Sometimes I just feel like, quittin I still might
Why do I put up this fight, why do I still write
Sometimes it's hard enough just dealin with real life
Sometimes I wanna jump on stage and just kill mics
And show these people what my level of skill's like
:ohhh:
Somethin ain't right, hit the brake lights
Case of the stage fright, drawin a blank like
Da-duh-duh-da-da, it ain't my fault
Great then I falls, my insides crawl
and I clam up (wham) I just slam shut
I just can't do it, my whole manhood's
just been stripped, I have just been vicked
So I must then get off the bus then split
Man fukk this shyt yo, I'm goin the fukk home
World on my shoulders as I run back to this

8 Mile Road

[Chorus]
I'm a man, I'ma make a new plan
Time for me to just stand up, and travel new land
Time for me to just take matters into my own hands
Once I'm over these tracks man I'ma never look back
(8 Mile Road) And I'm gone, I know right where I'm goin
Sorry momma I'm grown, I must travel alone
ain't gon' follow the footsteps I'm making my own
Only way that I know how to escape from this 8 Mile Road

I'm walkin these train tracks, tryin to regain back
the spirit I had 'fore I go back to the same crap
To the same plant, and the same pants
Tryin to chase rap, gotta move ASAP
And get a new plan, momma's got a new man
Poor little baby sister, she don't understand
Sits in front of the TV, buries her nose in the pad
And just colors until the crayon gets dull in her hand
While she colors her big brother and mother and dad
Ain't no tellin what really goes on in her little head
Wish I could be the daddy that neither one of us had
But I keep runnin from somethin I never wanted so bad!:ohhh:
Sometimes I get upset, cause I ain't blew up yet
It's like I grew up, but I ain't grow me two nuts yet
Don't gotta rep my step, don't got enough pep
The pressure's too much man, I'm just tryin to do what's best

And I try, sit alone and I cry
Yo I won't tell no lie, not a moment goes by
That I don't pray to the sky, please I'm beggin you God
Please don't let me pigeon holed in no regular job
Yo I hope you can hear me homey wherever you are
Yo I'm tellin you dawg I'm bailin this trailer tomorrow
Tell my mother I love her, kiss baby sister goodbye
Say whenever you need me baby, I'm never too far
But yo I gotta get out there, the only way I know
And I'ma be back for you, the second that I blow
On everything I own, I'll make it on my own
Off to work I go, back to this 8 Mile Road

You gotta live it to feel it, you didn't you wouldn't get it
Or see what the big deal is, why it wasn't the skillest
To be walkin this borderline of Detroit city limits
It's different, it's a certain significance, a certificate
of authenticity, you'd never even see :ohhh:
But it's everything to me, it's my credibility
You never seen heard smelled or met a real MC
who's incredible upon the same pedestal as me
But yet I'm still unsigned, havin a rough time
Sit on the porch with all my friends and kick dumb rhymes
Go to work and serve MC's in the lunchline --
But when it comes crunch time, where do my punchlines go
Who must I show, to bust my flow
Where must I go, who must I know
Or am I just another crab in the bucket
Cause I ain't havin no luck with this little Rabbit so fukk it:birdman:
Maybe I need a new outlet, I'm startin to doubt shyt
I'm feelin a little skeptical who I hang out with
I look like a bum, yo my clothes ain't about shyt
At the Salvation Army tryin to salvage an outfit

And it's cold, tryin to travel this road
Plus I feel like I'm on stuck in this battlin mode
My defenses are so up, but one thing I don't want
is pity from no one, the city is no fun
There is no sun, and it's so dark
Sometimes I feel like I'm just bein pulled apart

From each one of my limbs, by each on of my friends
It's enough to just make me wanna jump out of my skin
Sometimes I feel like a robot, sometimes I just know not
what I'm doin I just blow, my head is a stove top

I just explode, the kettle gets so hot
Sometimes my mouth just overloads the ass that I don't got
But I've learned, it's time for me to U-turn
Yo it only takes one time for me to get burned
Ain't no fallin no next time I meet a new girl
I can no longer play stupid or be immature
I got every ingredient, all I need is the courage :fire:
Like I already got the beat, all I need is the words
Got the urge, suddenly it's a surge
Suddenly a new burst of energy is occured
Time to show these free world leaders the three and a third
I am no longer scared now, I'm free as a bird
Then I turn and cross over the median curb
Hit the 'burbs and all you see is a blur from 8 Mile Road

RABBIT RUN -- the GOAT hip-hop song without a hook..

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MVT5YO4qMI]Eminem - Rabbit Run [HQ & Lyrics] - YouTube[/ame]

Some days I just wanna up and call it quits
I feel like I'm surrounded by a wall of bricks
Every time I go to get up I just fall in pits
My life's like one great big ball of shyt!
If I could, just put it all into all I spit
Instead of always trying swallow it
Instead of starin' at this wall and shyt
While I sit writer's block , sick of all this shyt
Can't , Call it shyt!
All I know is I'm about to hit the wall
If I ever have to see another one of Mom's alcoholic fits
This is it last straw
That's all, That's it
I ain't dealin' with another fukkin' politic
I'm like a skillet bubblin', until it filters up
I'm about to kill it, I can feel it buildin' up
Blow this building up, I've been sealed enough
My cup runneth over I done filled it up
The pen explodes and busts, ink spills my guts!
You think all I do is stand here and feel my nuts
Well.. Imma show you what, You gon' feel my rush
If you don't feel it, then it must be too real to touch
Build the dutch, I'm about to tear shyt up
Goosebumps, Yea Imma make your hair sit up, Yea sit up
Imma tell you who I be, Imma make you hate me, Cause you ain't me
You wait , it ain't too late for you to finally see
What you close-minded fukks were too blind to see
Whoever finds me is gonna get a finder's fee
Out this world, ain't no one out their mind as me
You need peace of mind? Here's a piece of mine
All I need's a line, but Sometimes I don't always find the words to rhyme
To express how I'm really feeling at that time, Yes
Sometimes, Sometimes, Sometimes
It's just sometimes is always me
How dark can these hallways be
The clock strikes midnight
1, 2, then half passed 3
This half-assed rhyme, with this half-assed piece of paper
I'm desperate at my desk
If I could just get the rest of this shyt off my chest, Again
Stuck in this slump, Can't think of nothing
fukk, I'm stumped, Oh Wait Here comes something, nope!
It's not good enough, scribble it out
New pad, crinkle it up, and throw the shyt out
I'm fizzling out, thought I figured it out
Ball's in my court but I'm scared to dribble it out
I'm afraid, but why am I afraid? Why am I a slave
To this Trade ? Cyanide I spit to the grave
Real enough to rile you up, Want me to flip it? I can rip it
any style you want. Imma switch hitter bytch Jimmy Smith ain't a quitter
Imma sit here till I get enough of me to finally hit a fukking boiling point
Put some oil in your joints, Flip the coin, bytch come get destroyed
An MC's worst dream, I make them tensed, they hate me
See me and shake like a chain-link fence
By the looks of em you would swear that Jaws was coming
By the screams of them you would swear I'm sawing someone
By the way they runnin', you could swear that the law was coming
It's now or never, And tonight it's all or nothing
Momma, Jimmy keeps leaving on us, He said he'd be back
He pinky promised, I don't think he's honest
I'll be back baby, I just gotta beat this clock
fukk this clock! Imma make them Eat this watch
Don't believe me Watch! Imma win this race
And Imma come back and rub my shyt in your face, bytch!
I found my niche, You gonna hear my voice
Till you're SICK of it you ain't gonna have a choice
If I gotta scream 'til I have half a lung
If I have half a chance, I'll grab it, Rabbit Run!

I know people will disagree. But, I believe at the least a legit argument can be made that you're right OP.

also "STIMULATE" top 10 EM song was also recorded during the 8 mile sessions

I'm only entertaining you
My goal is to stimulate, making you high
And take you and I
To a place you can't see
But I believe you can fly
I don't mean nobody harm, I'm just partying
I'm not your dad, not your mom, not your guardian
Just a man who's on the mic
So let me entertain you...

[Eminem]
My lyrical content is constantly under fire
No wonder why I constantly bomb back
To combat attacks with constant concepts
When lyrics are constantly took outta context
Failure to communicate with congress has
Been a problem for the longest, I guess
But maybe one day we can make some progress
Food for thought - see how long it takes to digest
Feeling good when I should be ashamed
Sh*t, I really should've fell but I stood
See I came like a flame in the night
Like a ghost in the dark; there's a ray, there's a light
There's a hope, there's a spark
But when planets collide they'll never see eye to eye
Until they decide to set their differences aside
And this is why only one of us will survive
So children follow my lead and feel the vibe, cause

[Chorus]

[Eminem]
My music can be slightly amusing
You shouldn't take lyrics so serious, it might be confusing
Just trying to seperate the truth from entertainment
It's stupid, ain't it? I get sick of trying to explain it
See I could sit and argue with you but it goes beyond
Just being a snot, pointy-nosed bleach-blond
Cause I came here to uplift; let your woes be gone,
Tell 'em to get fu*ked and just mosie on
Constantly moving, constantly using the constitution
As a form of restitution
Bless the children, nothing less than brilliant
Let me entertain you like Robbie Williams
I'll be here when y'all are gone, rebuilding,
World revolving, still evolving, still Slim
How many kids'll copy? Probably millions,
But I'ma do this as a fu*king hobby till then, cause

[Chorus]

[Eminem]
My lyrical content contains subject matter
That sucks up all these fu*ked up young kids
At an alarming rate; common denominate
Add it up and you'll see just why I dominate
I try to stimulate but kids emulate,
And mimmick every move you make - "Slim, you great!"
But wait, can't you see I'm only here to entertain?
I gotta be the one to go against the grain
Cause man, I see it, feel it, live it, but it's inhumane
For me to see you be influenced but pretend you ain't
But they don't understand that I've been through pain
If you get to know me I could be a friend you gain
But you can't just stand there and try to judge
It hurts but you're jealousy probably tears you up inside as much
And it's such a pleasure, every button that I touch
I treasure every glutton that I punish in my lust, but

[Chorus]

While I don't agree with a lot of publications, including Rollingstone.................... I tell people this all the time.... The 8 Mile era Eminem is when he hit his prime... At that point in his career, there was no denying who the GOAT was AT THAT TIME.... He was in a zone..

AND yes The Eminem show was his best LP
