I was just thinking how legendary this game would have been if it had come out before the internet.
So many rumors about areas, bosses, and items would swirl by word of mouth, like they did with the OG Legend of Zelda.
Some of the secret areas are incredibly difficult to find without help, like Miquella's Haligtree. A secret area within a secret area that you reach by finding two halves of a secret medallion, one half you find by hitting a radom pot to find a hidden npc, and the other half from defeating an optional boss in an optional area.
Even with the internet they still managed to pull off some of the mystique with the lore. People on youtube looking like private investigators and archilogists breaking all this shyt down But they really did kill it with the lore and environmental storytelling. A lot of it will go over most peoples heads (including myself). After my first playthrough and going into my second, I started learning more about the lore and it made me appreciate all the little details so much more. Now I read all the item descriptions as they actually do shed a lot of light on certain aspects.
There’s very specific reasons why certain enemies and bosses are in certain areas. Like the Godskin warriors arent just dumped wherever, they are in very specific areas that speak to their lore and history of the lands between. The Night’s Calvary are under Margit’s command and he hints at them hunting you down after you beat him. You wouldnt recognize it at first as it just sounds like a vague threat, but the dialog is actually hinting at us being hunted down in the night (when they appear). Their gear also confirms that they are his warriors after you beat the two in the moutaintops area
The tree sentinels are protectors of the erdtree and know that a tarnished seeking to become Elden Lord is the biggest threat to the erdtree, which is why they are placed in areas where they have to be defeated before moving forward. The first tree sentinel in the beginning is right outside that cave as the first line of defense. The draconic sentinels were former warriors who believed they must use the dragons power to defend the erdtree after Gransax breached the capital walls in the earlier history of the lands between. Which is why they are placed
in the main capital and in Farum Azula, the former dragon “capital”
Varre calls you maidenless when he is very likely the one who killed your intended maiden, hinted by the dead maiden body near the beginning area and the bloodstains on him. Given that he is a bloody finger who hunts tarnished, this makes total sense that he would be trying to sabotage new tarnished right out the gates
Gideon is not only using you to collect the great runes and do his dirty work for him, but he is also spying on you through the entire game with those beetles that give you flasks and ashes of war. They have the eye insignia and are in every area except the Haligtree, deeproot depths, and Mohg’s palace, areas that Gideon doesnt know about or have been to until you tell him. Also his full name has ties to Odin (known in viking lore as all seeing due to using ravens, as well as a specific type of beetle)
Also in the boss fight against him, his range of abilities will depend on what dungeons you’ve cleared. ie he uses blood magic if you’ve beaten Mohg, but won’t if he doesnt. He’ll use rot if you happened to beat Malenia before that point. He wont use those abilities if you haven’t been to those areas
Also he had Ensha attack you after you get the first medallion he’s looking for to get to the haligtree. He’s the one who slaughtered that Albinuaric village looking for it and killed Latenna’s wolf, so it’s no coincidence that you get attacked as soon as you return from getting it. He also says Ensha “got ahead of himself” basically implying that he was going to have you killed at some point, just not then

This is just tip of the iceberg shyt too. People got hours upon hours of content going in depth with all the characters, their intentions, and history of the lands between. All this info is in the game, but pieced together through item descriptions and the enviroments themselves.
My guess for DLC is that we go to the Badlands or Land of Reeds, two other areas outside of the Lands Between that are mentioned in the game in various ways
