N00b question, but where am I supposed to get some magic spells?

I'm like a couple hours in and all I have is an ax and some shytty sword I took from someone. And some other sword that's too heavy. I could really use some ranged attacks.

Waypoint Ruins is the first real Sorcery Vendor if you are putting points into INT. Its on the east side of limgrave, should be a big plant guarding a cellar. Go down into the cellar and you have to fight a little mini-boss called pumpkin head. After that you should gain access to a room with a merchant that will teach basic sorceries, which realistically are some of the best in the game.

theres also faith, which lets you learn incantations and arcane which lets you learn fire/dragon spells

In Elden ring you can truly have best of both worlds.

Im a mele character, but most of my weapons have a magic/status effect shadow art that gives me some range too.

Bleed & Holy damage for me. Dual wielding twinblades and if I feels like it, I'll use some lightning

my end goal is to switch to Holy and Darkflame magic...gotta get that Godskin peeler

There is one club that is pretty good. Inflicts bleed and has per hit-life steal. I don't know the name of it and got it from a random chest.

Edit: It's in that large battlefield type area in the Atlas Plateau its called Great Stars.

incantations are hugely slept on in this game. I noticed a majority of boss weapons/spells seem to be Faith Based or Str Based also

I was initially going with a dex/faith build but switched to INT for the moonveil katana. I don’t even use the wands n shyt. If there was a dex/faith sword I’d maybe use that instead because I put in work with flame sling, beast claw, and rotten breath before I recently respec’d

Start noticing this way early, that's why I switch to confessor from prisoner.
