These convictions stem from a charge of allegedly killing one police officer. Explain to me how it is at all possible for 529 men to be criminally culpable in a single homicide, and how each of them deserve a death sentence. Keep in mind these court proceedings lasted all of two days. Egypt might as well be right back where it started; such a tragedy that so many died for the sake of trying to make the country a better place.

Certainly a tragedy, but different than this. This was a court ordered death sentence following an actual trial. A clear case of the Egyptian judiciary once again completely disregarding the law and criminal procedure, let alone human rights and common sense.

What bugs me the most is the flat up denial by the executive branch of any involvement in this. It's no secret every government official in Egypt can either serve as a lapdog to the executive or start digging their own grave.

If you want to string pieces together it's better to look at the whole picture: lawfully elected president gets forcibly ousted from office, supporters engage in peaceful sit-in demonstrations and are killed by the thousands by police force in major cities across the country, sparking a group of protesters to attack a police station resulting in one officer dying.
