I've always heard slow and controlled.

Hmm...
It's true there's just a point of diminishing returns. 3 seconds up 3 seconds down is prob the sweet spot. That's a 6sec rep. The study draws the line at 10secs for when it ceases to be beneficial and even pointless

I usualy burst up(positive) and control slow down (negative)(about 4 seconds a rep). Thats the only way i can feel my muscles being used. I used to just lift at a medium pace but wasnt really feeling it.

Depends on the muscles used and what your goals are.

If your playing an explosive sport like track or football fast reps for power cleans can be beneficial to work on the fast twitch muscles.
